In the saved file below, it's China's land movement phase. Turn on the hex control flags and notice that Nanking is Japanese controlled. Move the Chinese cavalry SE of Nanking into the city and it switches to Chinese control. Now undo the move. The Chinese unit returns to its original spot, but Nanking switches to Chinese control. I haven't noticed this behavior elsewhere - which isn't to say it doesn't happen, just that I've never noticed it before.
