1.01 update

Piercing Fortress Europa is a new game from veteran game designer Frank Hunter, which covers the campaigns of the Western Allies from July, 1943 through the end of April, 1945 in Sicily and Italy. Each area has its own map and time scale to best represent the campaigns for Sicily and Italy and the player is offered complete freedom, limited only by a historical order of battle and logistics model, to plan his operations and explore all of the many “what ifs” that the Italian theater has to offer.

1.01 update

Post by FrankHunter »

Hi, I just wanted to let everyone know that Tamas tells me the new version of the manual should be posted later this week.

Also, while looking at the circumstances around the surrender of those British units last week I found a bug in the withdrawal module that often caused retreating units not to gain the benefit of retreating through friendly units (friendly units block enemy ZoCs). Its now fixed.

In addition, the Allied AI wasn't doing as well as it should in regards to putting workers in ports. This was very evident in the Advance to the Alps scenario where I found too many workers in Naples and not enough in ports such as Leghorn and Ancona. That has also now been fixed.

Because of those changes the patch for 1.01 will be done later this week and should be posted at the beginning of next.

Will the patch make it harder for the AI to break fortified river lines?

Not directly, I can't think of anything that might have that effect.

It just seems like the Allied AI can break a fortified river/mountain defensive line pretty easy? And maybe it's just me?

There's a lot that could contribute to that. Are they just overwhelming you or are the combats pretty evenly matched?

I think that I found my problem? None of the defending units had any combat supply. So I would guess that they weren't defending at full strength?

No they wouldn't be, and the AI's units were probably at level 2 or 3 so that's quite a difference.

Matrix is NOTORIOUSLY slow with updates. No telling when they will get to it. May be today or it may be in two more weeks.
