how to add flags to counter units?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

how to add flags to counter units?

Post by strumdiv »

I would like to know if there is a way to add each nations flag to the HQ units of corps and armies? I think this would add a better visual to ID the nations the units go to while playing the game on the main screen. can this be done in the edit section? I would really like to know before I spend $90.00 on war in the east game. thanks for any help that can be given

To keep the game's size down a lot of the art files are shared. So if you were to edit the HQ symbol to show a German flag, then every HQ unit in the game will sport a German flag.

thanks for the input Bo Rearguard. I'm hoping if that's the case when I add one nations flag to the HQ unit it will go with that color of units. same with the rest as they will be different colors. I hope I understand that right.

Not quite. What I'm saying is that although each nation has it's own counter colors, the unit symbols on them are all generic and shared. So, if like in the example below, I put a Soviet Star in place of the current HQ symbol for the Russians, then everyone's HQ counters--German, Italian, Rumanian whatever--will get a Soviet Star.

A way to do it could be to remove the alpha channel mask from all or part of the HQ Symbol and then put the correct flag in the corresponding part of the Counters as they are nation specific.

This would then allow the flag to appear for HQ Symbols but all other Symbols would screen it out.

Could also see Jison's & others' threads in the mods sub-forum. Lots of posts with custom designs there...
