Titans of Steel and Windows 7

Post by RovanW »

I have tried installing the retail and freeware versions of Titans of Steel on Windows 7 and cannot get the game to work. I have tried the compatibility settings and searched the forums and google. Does anyone know how to get the game to work?

Thank you for your help.

right click game exe,
properties,

left click compatibility

then choose disable display scaling etc, and see if it works for you

Sorry, haven't had much time to trouble shoot. Thank you for the response.

I have tried XP compatible with themes, desktop and scaling disabled. It will not allow me to disable colors or resolution.

I have also tried 95 and 98 compatible.

I get to the command center screen but am not able to do anything.

It runs fine in windows 7, and should do also for win xp, dont give up, the answer must be near! - when you get to the command center screen what happens? Game freezes? No button?

the game freezes. it freezes during all the opening credit screens but I can alt-tab to the command screen. there is usually no mouse cursor, and if one shows up, I cannot move it or select anything.

sadly i am no great expert and havent had this problem with ToS but it sounds like a graphics card related problem as its very similar to games where i had that as being a known issue. - however, i runt he game from my integrated intel card too, - i have both nvidia and intel cards on my laptop and dont need any compat settings -

coming back to the patch though - didyou install 1.2.7 on top of 1.2.0 or 1.2.1 as the latter needs to be the version of the game prior to extracting the files for 1.2.7

I downloaded the freeware (1.2.1) and installed the patch on top of that. I suppose I could try a reinstall. I just extract 1.2.7 into the ToS directory, right?

yes do a reinstall, but just as a test - install 1.2.1 first and see if that works before the patch - its pretty fine as 1.2.1 itself and i was playing hte game for a while unaware of 1.2.7

I reinstalled 1.2.1 and am running into the same faults. In the ToS directory there are two applications: 'autorun' and 'tos_ws'. does it matter which one I right click for compatibility? both?

Thanks for the help so far. I'm really itching for some giant robot destruction.

I dont have my computer with me atm, but the game exe is tos_ws and so thats the one to play around with the compat settings on. Another good thing to do might be just to reinstall your intel gfx drivers doing a clean install, - this has been the cause of graphics errors in games for me in the past when updating drivers but not doing the clean install option, but first go through the compat settings, putting the os to xp with sp2 and selecting all the options or going through combinations. An annoying process but that was exactly what had to do with another older game, Napoleon in Italy before i found what worked . I am sure there will be an answer as there is no reason for it not to run perfectly on win7 with an intel graphics card for you.

VICTORY! I went to the Dell web site and downloaded the latest driver for my video card. I am running ToS in Win7 mode with visual themes, desktop composition and high DPI disabled. Working great so far. Thanks to everyone for all your help.
