Can HQ's naval support be modified?

Post by Yaab »

Right now naval support squads belonging to a naval HQ are distributed both among bases (bases which have both a port and an airfield) and airfields (bases which only have an airfield). A good example of this on December 8,1941 is Dambulla on Ceylon, which is an inland base which has no port, but has 71 Naval Support.

Can a check be added to see if a base is actually eligible for naval support from a naval HQ?

Not sure I understand the intent of the question Yaab. All ports can have naval support, it is a question of getting those units that have naval support into the hex that contains the port. In your case above the unit happens to start the game inland. It is now up to you to move it to a port, normally Colombo. But again, any port can have naval support. Did I get the meaning of your question right?

I think what he is asking for is to remove any naval support for inland base because it make no sense.
It's not important in my opinion as it doesn't affect the number in other base with port, it's just useless.

Ok Gaspote, if that is the case, then I don't know if any aspect of tracker or any other tool lists "Naval Support" anywhere. So the only way to hunt for naval support units in non-port hexes is to run through the naval HQs from the ground units list. But there are other units with naval support troops attached, such as port engineers (not sure of the exact name, but definitely NOT an HQ unit) so you would have to expand a search past just naval HQ units.

Pretty sure this is just an OOB artifact. I think they split that one unit up so that each base would have some engr devices. I suspect that historically, the unit was deployed everywhere at one time or another on Ceylon. If you really don't like it, use the editor to fix it in your own mod.

I seriously doubt that any db fixes will ever be released again. The best we will ever do are the DBB scenarios where at least two of the devs are directly involved. A great number of db updates and fixes have been made there.

No, this is the Eastern Fleet HQ in Columbo. Naval HQ's can "share" some of their support with bases in range. There is no actual naval support in the hex.

Correct. A HQ unit with naval support will provide naval support to bases within its command range. The unit providing the support does not have its own naval support reduced in the process. It is a meaningless figure when it applies to inland bases and has no impact on the game so I just ignore. It would be nice for it to be removed if possible.
