OT Tora Tora Tora

Just watched Tora Tora Tora for the first time in about 25 Years. You can really see the hard work the producers put into that movie. Dispite its age, its still got it. A lot of the little details are covered well. Anybody else see it lately? GP

No, but I did watch Letters from Iwo Jima again after a few years, and I remembered why I remember that film better than the film showing the American perspective.

I agree the movie from the Japanese side is so much better. It was much better in so many ways. I watch it from time to time.

Got it for christmas on DvD in 2013. Great movie. When my son is old enough I hope to watch it with him one day.

Have it on Blu-ray still one of my favorites. I Can't stomach TMTSNBN, I get mad every time I watch that pile of flotsam. Not just the history perspective but the violations of physics ect. I love aircraft flying feet off the ground with wings completely vertical and not sliding into the ground, I'm so glad that whole lift thing I learned was completely wrong, that means that the wings on aircraft are for aesthetics purposes only. I also love how they tried to portray the bombs as somehow malevolent in terms of their detonations whether true or not - somehow they missed the opportunity for a 10 minute delay to allow the whole ships company to stand over the yards wide crater just before it explodes. As many others have said it's a triangle love story that just happens to be set during the time in question and the story was the triangle and historical setting was purely coincidental (as was the unnecessary things like history).

I watch Tora^3 at least twice a year. I like it for its authenticity (more than can usually be expected from Hollywood) and the focus on the events leading up to the war. I'm at a point where battle scenes get boring quickly (in fact, even this one could have nearly a half-hour cut from the end and it would still have its appeal). Another favorite for the same reason is Twelve O'Clock High.

Watched it a month or two ago, I believe on Netflix's.

I also this past weekend watched Flags of our fathers. American prospective on Iwo Jima. The special effects, the transport fleet and the battleships bombarding the Island. Top Notch! Had me thinking someone with todays tech and special effects could make a great Naval War movie.

I saw it with my eldest son during our summer holydays (January and February here in the southern hemisphere), and in English (That is not our language), the idea is to expose him to English and to good, historically accurate and well produced movies.

He was amazed and ecstatic about it, He's 14 and from a generation used to spectacular special effects and CGI. Now he's asking for more and we have watched since then Battle of Midway, Sink the Bismarck, Patton, In which we serve, the Dam Busters and Zulu.

The result is that now he cares more to read about the facts of the story told in the movie, about the acting and how the story is unfolded.

I must say that I´m quite proud of him, and is really rewarding to share with him my interest in military history.

The downside is that he doesn´t care about WITP.

Alternatively, you could pay him a modest amount of money to play. It would keep him away from girls and beer -- the real goals of most 14 year old boys.

Haven't seen Tora Tora Tora for quite a long time now. As mentioned by others, I've got both Flags of our Fathers and Sands of Iwo Jima. SOIJ I constantly go back to - love that film, great acting too, and the story is great. Another great Pacific Theatre film I love is The Thin Red Line. A must see!

I only watched it once and returned to the rental place and the girl behind the counter was absolutely bent out of shape by our assertion that it was a chick flick,` of course my wife likes it but knows better than to watch it with me home or listen to obnoxious comments from yours truly.
