7.16 Thoughts

Post by DTC666 »

Just had a play with 0.16. Mix and match works. I am assuming payload weight and payload capacity of booster is the only criteria. Lot of graphics missing, Build mission screen no longer shows the component eg X-15 just a spiral of dots. Prestige awards seem very high. Mission control screen. The "there is a problem box soon becomes very annoying. Would it not be better to utilise the 2 unused sidebars for this info. Looking forward to the US an Russian programs.

Hello gifty,

Thanks for your input.

Indeed, yes. Notice that you cannot launch manned mission using non man-rated boosters.

Lot of graphics missing,

Yes, this will all get added in subsequent updates. I know graphics are a big incentive, but it shouldn't affect gameplay and your feedback is still useful for balancing the game.

Before 0.7.16 we would show a single image featuring both the payloads and the booster. That's no longer applicable, so we'll redesign that screen in future updates.

Prestige awards seem very high.

OK, we'll tweak that.

Further improvements will be made to this screen.

Yes, we'll start working on that after we finish tidying up some loose ends on the GSA campaign [:)]

Have played the first few years of 7.16. Two thoughts and one question:

Interface:

1. In the Mission Control info screen, the icons are no longer there to show the relevant skill for each position. Picture is attached. The icons are there when assembling a mission.

2. The enhancement added a few builds back, where Flight Director and AFD were placed first so they were assigned first, looks to have disappeared.

Question:

3. Is there any way to look up the weight of Payloads before their program is opened? That is important info when deciding what rockets to develop.

My thoughts:

Sorry, i'm always with the same thing but...MONEY!
The game is very bored with such small budget, few flights possible. However, IMHO, is not a problem of budget, the problem is the huge cost of the programs and flights. I start with the Vostok program without failures in early missions. My income in this stage was around 1500$/season, and had 5000$ in the bank. But the cost of a single flight of Vostok is 5500!! So only can make one flight and after that wait three season to another flight, and of course, without spent money in other programs...
Bored.

This limited budget it's a serious handicap.

The failures improved system is great, when this material is accompanied by graphical material the feeling will be much better. Now you have the impression that your technicians solve real problems.

Acording the mix and match option it's some confused to me. Now need more clicks to open a program because need open TWO programs really, payload and rocket. May be would be better some option to, when you open a payload program, inmediately attach a rocket program?

Very very happy with the random facts every season, i think this is the correct path.

This is a bug, yes. I'll look into it.

I certainly didn't remove this functionality from the codebase. I'll look into it, though.

At the moment no, but we're definitely adding that for 0.7.17, since we understand there's a need for that.

Bear with us, it will get better in the next update. We've introduced lots of moving parts in 0.7.16 (and we've already introduced a bunch more since then), so we're still finding our way around it.

Thanks. The texts with more information about the problem will be coming in future updates.

For manned programs, most of the time you wouldn't want to link a single rocket program to it. Project Mercury was developed using two different boosters (Redstone and Atlas), Gemini required two different boosters as well (Titan II for the manned spacecraft and Atlas for the Agena Target Vehicle) and Apollo used three (Saturn I, Saturn IB and Saturn V). Notice that the game "remembers" the rocket(s) you specify for a each mission configuration, so at least you don't have to worry about selecting the same rocket over and over for the same mission.

Thanks. We even have the implementation for "decision events", but we didn't want to throw it in the mix because we didn't have enough time to test it. We'll surely include it in a future update.
