The Chinese government sarcastically congratulates the Japanese for their deviousness in tricking the USSR into going to war against China. China urges the USSR to look beyond the Chinese insignia painted onto the formerly Japanese tanks and examine the race of the crews that manned them. To assist in this the Chinese government has published a pamphlet on how to tell the difference between Chinese and Japs.

GOWN announces naval news.

The Royal and Republican navies attacked and destroyed a wolf pack off the coast of Portugal, destroying 6 modern U-Boats.

The RAF attacked the large concentration of German naval vessels in the port of Amsterdam. We sunk 16 Destroyers, 1 pocket battleship, 1 light cruiser, and 2 heavy cruisers. As can be seen in the panel below the German Navy is still significant.

The Soviet Union thanks the Chinese for the most useful illustration [:D]. But the feeling in the Kremlin is that if China had ended the alliance with Japan as agreed and manned the border with sufficient force, China would not be in its current predicament. Instead the border with Japan is unmanned that implies collusion and a concerted plan. And as China is no longer on the Trusted Nations list I have to ask why is most of the Chinese army on the border with India Thailand and Burma. And not protecting its borders against the threatening Japanese ?

GOWN also wonders that the Chinese and Japanese continue to provoke the West. We have not let the war in Europe distract us from the defense of the Commonwealth.

We too see joint occupation of Pacific islands by Japanese and Chinese troops, and the forces near our territory displease us.

GOWN is certainly dealing considerable damage I note the Germans have dug in along the Pyrenees.

I also just noted that they have been pushed of the Pyrenees, blink and it changes.

I suggest you take another look, Japan has returned to her home islands and all of Manchuria and Korea were delivered to China along with the armies there. Deceitful is the right word, you know they had not had time to withdraw from your border when you attacked them. As for China on Korea's border, how exactly, since you SAW his troop deployments was he going to do that? Further nothing in our agreement stipulated China and Japan stopping being allied. China put no troops on your border yet you left THOUSANDS of troops on her border. And then attacked a peaceful Nation.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

Ok the Soviet Union pulled all troops back from the border on day one, I am not sure why you should misrepresent this fact. I have the maps saved to prove it don't make me tediously show map after map.

For Two Months what is absolutely true is that 10 200+ armored units have been sitting on the Chinese/Soviet Border that you placed there. No explanation as to why Japan decided to break a peace agreement.

"All that would be required is Chinese assurances that Japanese forces would not be allowed to enter Chinese territory and that China eventually return to a Neutral state."

This is in a post above the word neutral is fairly clear and unequivocal.

This is the Chinese response incase you did not read it which you clearly did not. China agrees to revoke its allied status with Japan and become neutral. So that nefarious land swaps cannot occur and Japanese troops cannot move to the Soviet border.

"Such assurances are hereby given. China intends to keep its new border with the USSR completely demilitarized. This includes the Afghan/Persia border."

And a question regarding the surrender of Korea and 4 Japanese factories. Why would Japan surrender these precious national assets its not a swap. China has nothing to offer and in fact has given nothing. Is this a attempt to engineer a Chinese victory. I would say yes and if that is the case apart from the breaking of a peace agreement this is another good reason for the Soviet Union to go to war with China.

Image

This is the border as it has been since the peace agreement was put in place. Nothing on the border unless you feel that the Soviet Union should have evacuated the Far East.
I will have to insist that you stop using words like Liar and deceitful you have not proved one case and if these words have any application or meaning at all they apply to your dealings.
In the part of the world I come from if you use such words you have to back them up with facts or the truth I guess standards in your part of world are a lot lower.

Soviet Offensive against the Chinese armor (Formerly Japanese) on the Soviet Border in breech of the peace agreement. The reason there are now so many Chinese units in view is that they were all formerly Japanese and have been given to China go figure.

時事月報 (Current Affairs Monthly) April 1941

China Declares War on Britain

Proclamation by Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek, March 31 1941

Chinese!

The war which for the last two years has been encircling our frontiers more and more closely has shaken the ancient foundations of the world to their depths.

It has brought the day which has been awaited for decades by the national conscience, by the founders of the Chinese Republic, by those who united the provinces in the war against the warlords, by those responsible for the national renaissance.

It is the day of the union of all branches of our nation. Today we are able to complete the task of our forefathers and to establish forever that which Dr. Sun Yat-sen was only able to dream of, namely, a Chinese union from Manchuria to Hainan.

For us the people of Hong Kong have suffered long enough under the yoke of British oppression. In our moral energy and our valour lie the means of giving Dr. Sun Yat-sen the fulfillment of his dream of a great and free China from the Amur River to the South China Sea, and to prosper in peace in accordance with our customs and our hopes and dreams.

Chinese!

Animated by the holy duty imposed upon us, and determined to bear manfully all the sacrifices inseparable from an arduous war, we will march into battle with the irresistible élan of a people firmly confident in its destiny. The glorious fruits of victory shall be our reward.

Forward, with the help of China's divine Guardian!

CHIANG KAI-SHEK

[OOC - I used as a template the proclamation to the Romanian people made by King Ferdinand when Romania declared war against Austria-Hungary in August 1916 [:D]. Also, at first I wondered why the designers of the scenario did not include the Amur river on the map, but it turns out that the river is frozen for about half the year so maybe that was the right decision]

To be completely honest, the map used as an overlay to make the map that you are playing on, was not real good at rivers. So I am slowly getting them up to date, as I am with roads and rails.

Its a shame that Jonathan did not take up the option of controlling the USA/China imagine the havoc that combination could have had on the world.

A 4 player game is normally

Axis Italy/Germany/Japan
USSR
Western Allies UK/France
USA/China

We have

Axis Italy/Germany/Japan
USSR
Western Allies UK/France/USA
China

It is not the first time. I have been war-gaming a long time, so it is not the first time.

It is interesting how it gives one a whole new appreciation for the French commanders in 1940. Suddenly one does not feel that their errors are inexplicable, a new sympathy blooms for them, with them. Husband E. Kimmel seems on top of things. There are whole new aspects of military history that are clearer, much clearer to me.

Wargaming is so educational, and our Chinese friend is Teacher of the Year!

The British may well have been wrong footed but the loss of even India is not a fatal blow the USA is not fully boots on the ground.
GOWN has a, if not defeated certainly a weakened Italy and Germany to deal with. So the GOWN are in better shape than they were historically,
The only problem may be the Chinese victory conditions. Which reflects poorly on the concept of victory conditions.
China may obtain Victory but its chances of holding these objectives are zero.
Against the USSR USA France and the UK.

The victory conditions serve a dual purpose. They firstly decide when a given country has won, and secondly mold their actions. A player who gives up on his victory conditions in effect has lost the game, although he or she has won the freedom to do anything.

Another thing is the giving up of all territory to a foreign power. That too is destabilizing, but can be tolerated in certain circumstances. For instance France giving up all territory to a (traditional) allied nation, hoping this will save it for later. It really shouldn´t happen in cases where two enemies, with conflicting goals ally. One might say that such a victory is tainted...

I was trying to lift Chucks spirits the tenor of his post sounds a bit defeatist and defeated. All is not lost the Chinese have not yet won. I am hoping that the Chinese have picked Vladivostok as one of their objectives. As to victory well that normally is a consensus event its what the protagonists perceive as Victory or Defeat for the Soviets and Allies it was the complete and unconditional surrender of the Axis nations. Ebbs and flows would not count as victory only the ultimate outcome.
