About the Sarawak CD unit at Cocos - I have tried to unload 6" guns at small ports and every one of them is lost during unload.
You need a Port 3 or major naval support to offload those beasts.

I think you will save the Yorktown, unless there is another sub or you do something silly like flank speed. Mining the port makes sense.
I bet your float damage goes down a point this next day and fires out. [:)] Especially if you cruise.
Unloading coastal guns at small ports -- I have done it with no losses using AK ships. Naval support surely helps, and in fact, it might have been the naval support inherent in the unit with the coastal guns that allowed the unloading to occur without loss. If so, there was only 80 naval support. I am not sure the coastal guns were on the AK, but an AK will help other ships offload too.

Thanks guys. I have about 30 Naval support at Penryn where the Yorktown will try to go. With such high float damage this'll be a long one. One day at a time. I've left three DDs and a CA in the TF with the York, with another three DDs in an ASW TF. Two AM will also join the party tomorrow after detaching from the TF bring the port unit in.
Wow. Tense. Can't fly from York either so the FP on night search and the Cats flying into Penryn will hunt for the sub.
About the CD guns at Cocos, the Sarawak Force is short on TOE and has no guns now, but if I can get the whole unit flown to Cocos I could then turn on reinforcements and potentially have the guns arrive.

Penryn is pretty exposed. The minor float should fix very quickly. If it were me I'd get system to 10, get rid of the minor float, and make for the Canal Zone with a strong to-the-south waypoint dogleg. Even with 15 system and that float you have a lot better than 50-50 shot of making it. The WC ports are probably crawling with I-boats and slow target speed is a (the?) primary sub attack variable.
I wouldn't expose an AR to the transit to Penryn. It doesn't add enough repair points to be worth the risk of it going both ways. Go pierside with ship's company and the present naval support, watch for two days to see what happens, and make a decision. I've taken BBs to the WC with 82 float and single-digit system and made it. But there were no subs in that case. At Penryn you're asking for a visit from the MKB. It's well worth the fuel to take out a CV this early.

Eh... Mining the port will only help against bombardments and mini-subs, as regular subs can't hit ships disbanded in port.
Also, doesn't one of the Port units arrive there in the near future as well? So you'll have 2!

RE: ::Felix, Ferdinand and FRUPAC:: obvert (A) v Greyjoy (J)
If it were me, I'd have a couple of subs in the port hex waiting for the Yorktown to appear. [:D] I'd move them in and out once detected. Also, don't rule out bombardments as a way to damage the Yorktown more.
Finally, I would be tempted to toss some sub mines in the port hex too. Especially if you have a couple of days due to slow speed.
The big thing is to stay undetected, so as to create a little doubt. If detected, expect the kitchen sink to thrown at the Yorktown.

It is, not where I'd like to hide a big broken flattop.
I'll firstly try to get her there, and secondly aim to get pier side and as you say, see what happens day by day. As Lokasenna points out above, one Port unit just arrived and another just happened to be passing by, so it's landing there next turn.
I don't doubt it'll be a target, but this deep and with at least the majority of the KB in the DEI the Sara can add some protection. I'll move her from Pearl and base at Tahiti, get some fuel and an AKE down there, and use the multiple cruiser groups in the area to patrol. At least with Canton still in Allied hands, and with 60 AV on the base and Cats flying, there will be no total surprises.
If all goes well I could also head for Port Stanley, especially since it's summer down there this time of year.
Has anyone ever had a ship sink from pump failures while in transit off-map?

Yes, assuming that you mean any verbiage the game attributed to the repairs-not-holding type sinking. Ships most definitely can sink during the off-map portion of an on-map/off-map journey. Ships going from off-map to off-map - I don't know.
Pierside requires three days to get out of, which is certainly a liability if she needs to get running (limping) away.
Also, surface forces that can endanger carriers hunting her might be worth considering.

CV Kaga is moving to 46,50.
I turned the Buffalos on and they shot down 25 unescorted Vals, most likely from Kaga, so great pre-war pilots. Also, these guys now have experience and kills.
This fleet looks ominous. It's very early to be hitting India, but of course after hitting the CVs it's going to be a lot easier for a while, at least. This makes me wonder though, looking at the OOB, if it's possible to take the place. I've got 1100 AV at Calcutta now with 3.2 forts. At Madras only 250AV and 2.5 forts. At Bombay about 200 AV and 2.5 forts. At Karachi around 300AV and 3.1 forts. Another Aussie division is on the way through Aden.
I'm trying to send the buyable Chinese to India as well, but I'm not sure they'll make it before the door gets closed. Of course it'll be tough to get Calcutta and do a bunch of other stuff too.
Pretty interesting. I know GJ has been on the other side of this several times, but those games featured a lot of Tojos, a lot of 2E IJAAF bombers, and against rader at least China had already fallen. I'll have to read up n the Mr Kane game.
So to get Calcutta he will likely need at minimum 2500AV and good air support. A ton of Hurri arrive throughout the week at Aden, so I now need to send a bunch of ASW over there and hope the KB doesn't get in the way too quickly.

I would still send a USN BF with its 100 Naval Support to help with repairs. It can be moved to another base later. You have too many up in Alaska that could be bought out and send south.
Double check the leadership qualities of the Yorktown's captain to see if there is a better one available. Leadership, naval, and then admin I think.
India - I would think about sending one or both the PBY-4s from Philippines here to allow better warning. I send the 40th and 41st American Divisions to Cape Town. Do you have any American divisions headed that way?? I have 3 FA with the big 155mm guns headed that way with some AA and later a few Marine CD units for coastal work.

Any idea what the target is?ORIGINAL: obvert
Now, this has been a roller coaster for a few days with two CVs getting hit by subs within a week, the IJA landing on Java and the IJN heading south into the IO.
All of that however is dwarfed by this: [X(]
100% sure it's Chittagong. Viz would be possible, but there is no need to deceive here, just get in fast. He's right there, it's a clear hex, why not? All units there have already started back. I'd like to save the decent brigade and get base forces to Calcutta.

I have Hudsons flying search from Chittagong and Trincomalee, so decent range. A day more wouldn't likely have made a difference here. It's too early to react and strike the invasion fleet. There are almost no strike planes.
About Penrhyn, I don't think I could fit another big base force and the units I'm sending, which are AA. Plus, it'd take another three weeks to get there. From Pearl I'm sending engineer and AA, which should be close to maxing the SL of 6k.

Some of those arriving Hurricane pilots are simply horrendous. Definitely check them out first.
Good thing you fled Burma, or are fleeing Burma.[:)]

SHE MADE IT TO PORT!!!!
Looks like a month to clear minor damage. Here is the shot.
Whew! From the increases in system and engine damage, she was losing the battle to stay afloat.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

I see you are enjoying the Japanese subs from an allied perspective! [;)]
Still following along but mostly reading on my phone. For some reason I can no longer log into the forums from it so I can write anything!
PS. Any initial thought on PDU OFF/SL yet? I found SLs to make China extremely problematic from an allied perspective and supply loss due to unwanted overstacking caused by retreats.
