Renaming Air counters 2.0
Lately I've been busy working on renaming the air counters. Anyone interested in giving some feedback on whats been done so far would be appreciated.
Some background info for various nations and Lend Lease aircraft counters and Fighters.
No Lend Lease aircraft have been renamed except for the added "LL". This was done so i could identify LL aircraft easily when renaming.
Only fighter counters have "Aces pilot names" or "special names". The only exception is Rudel stuka counter. Fighters were the only counter with consistent space for a name that would not detract from the combat values for the most part. The names are "Aces" for the most part. Not every fighter is named.
Went with as much of a minimalist approach as possible. Tried to keep uniformity within nations and history. After looking through hundreds of unit histories some cuts were made because of the Lend Lease aircraft or lack of counters.
For the most part I'm happy with the overall effect the renamed counters bring.
China : Most aircraft are Lend Lease. Not a lot of renaming.
CW: The CW histories were nicely put together so rather than being a chore it was just a lot of making sure i got the majority of units correctly matched with aircraft. The hard part was the Carrier planes. Bomber Command only had a handful of active groups. So when those were used up i went to squadrons "sqdn". The pre-1939 to 1941 unit counters should mirror the majority of units active during that time historically.
France: Except for a couple of "France 40" OoB's and some french sites where my reading of french is minimal. I tried to do my best. If anyone sees some glaring mistakes. Let me know.
Germany: Lots of info to draw from. Really my biggest trouble was what not to include. Anyone with suggestions for "Aces" or "Unit names" for the fighters, feel free to contribute. Especially the night fighter units. Only a handful of German carrier units were active and used them as a template for naming all the CVp's.
Italy: It was actually easier than i thought it would be. A site for Italians during ww2 was a great resource. the only real problem was naming the Carrier Plane counters. Ended up using "RA" which stands for Regia Aeronautica. If anyone knows the actual unit names for Italian carrier units. Please let me know.
Japan: Japan is the most varied. "Sentai" for Army Air. "Kotutai" for Land based Navy. Carrier units up to 1942 are named for unit commanders. 1943 and later get "NAG" Naval Air Group. The mix of Army and Navy land based air was based on the OoB's i could find online.
USA: Good sources to draw from. Again what not to choose was the hard part. And this is where the Lend Lease aircraft hurt the most. Most air units should be recognizable.
USSR: Again good sources. Trying to match some of the aircraft with units was a pain, as there were not enough of some kinds of aircraft.
This mod when released will not change in any way the Lend Lease aircraft as they are coded to match. It only changes the names of the counters to units that existed or planned to be during ww2.
Have not worked on any minor nations. If anyone has some info regarding them or any major power and would like to contribute it. Please do. thanks!
Screen shots of all the fighters below. Will be posting the rest of the aircraft as the day continues.

Here is a better looking screen of the Japanese counters. Black on red just looks crappy.
