Unknown Sound Error

I'm trying to run a number of Close Combat series games on Windows Vista SP2, but they won't load and all come up with "Unknown Sound Error". This includes COI, WAR, TLD, LSA and PITF. Any tips to remedy this?

Sounds like a DirectX error (the game uses DirectSound to play sounds). The fact that it is happening for all those games makes me think it is more likely to be a system issue or a compatibility problem.

Does it happen immediately when you start the game? You might try re-installing, making sure you have DirectX 9 installed, and checking other programs that use your sound card to make sure it's not a problem with the hardware.

Do you have any mods installed for the game(s)? A sound mod that was not installed correctly could cause this as well, though I wouldn't think you would have the exact same problem for five different games this way.

Thanks Steve. The problem resolves itself when I run the games as 'Administrator' from the 'Start' menu. Disabling my anti-virus also helped.

I am having issues still and I have reinstalled. I also added directx 9. However I have win 7 any ideas?

Did you try the steps that worked for Fom -- running the game as administrator? You can do this by right-clicking the "Close Combat Panthers in the Fog (Quick Start)" link.
