Just a question about the morale indicator

What was the reasoning for revealing the opponent's troop morale level, when "fog of war" is on ? I wouldn't think that opposing sides would necessarily be generally aware of this information.

Does the accuracy of the enemy morale flag change based upon detection level ? (I havn't really noticed.) That would be more reasonable, if it does.

Yes, it is explained in the manual on page 142 (13.2.1).

Just a bump of this thread to generate some other opinions on this question. It seems a bit unrealistic to me that I am able to view the morale level of my opponent's troops. I suppose some information regarding enemy morale would be obtained through captured troops, but that info would be unreliable at best. It just seems odd that I can pick points to attack in the enemy lines based on revealed morale levels, when in reality, morale levels would be virtually unknown to me, with any level of certainty.

It would be nice if there was an option to switch that bit of info off on enemy units.

as Oshawatt says, the accuracy is linked to the detection level.

I think its ok, both sides would have a rough idea of the morale range for typical divisions on the other side. I assume that detection also means low grade raiding and grabbing prisoners for interrogation. If so, one interest would be some gauge of morale - simple things like food delivery, mail, rest, when they were last out of the line for a shower - could all tell you if the formation in question was better than average/worse than average for what you'd expect.

Its not as if you get told the actual value with the indicator in any case?

hi guys,

not gonna know (much) about fuel, supply, or experience either. What really counts is how much "big guns".

If you're lucky ground recon might capture some documents and you'd know (maybe) unit ID and troop strength.
Prisoner interrogations are a joke, stuff for the media to make up stuff about. The best you're ever gonna do, really, is to get a fix on their prepared positions.

There is always fog of war and this includes CV values and indicators. This has to do with the detection level. There are various ways to raise the detection level. I find it very nice how the game handles this. In my opinion fog of war could be even stronger.

I agree Oshawott, the fog of war could be stronger. Its pretty hard to hide where you are going to hit with your panzers, especially in 42 when you have to make a panzer ball near enemy lines.

Well I don't have any problem with either side gaining knowledge of troop numbers and positioning from recon efforts. However, details as subjectively obscure as morale, or essentially unmeasurable from air recon, like unit fuel levels, should be essentially hidden in my opinion.

I agree that the fog of war should be somewhat stronger.

Believe it or not, in reality conditions of moral was not very difficult to access. Many characteristics of a fighting forces "cohesiveness" provide indicators of moral. How well do the fight, how well do they move, how tattered are their uniforms, how fast do they run, are captured and dead well fed?, what kind of ritual stuff are they carrying? on and on and on. Accessing an enemy units moral isn't particularly tough, what is tough is letting self confidence and other bias affect your opinion of the enemies moral. That is down right dangerous. Weather Wite does it on purpose or not, this effect is mimicked by very low moral falsely being shown, when in fact the unit is incredibly strong with good moral. Then out of frustration and without looking I hit the attack button again and kill off hundreds more of my men...lol

Well, be amazed. Ever hear of the Battle of the Bulge? And the U.S. recon was way better than the soviets.
