How did this happen? You didn't notice you got detected? Only a couple of P40s to protect vital shipping is not enough. Perhaps fly in AV support using Cats until you can support 3 squadrons at least!

There is no radar on Kira Kira. When I staged in the P40Ks from the Fiji's I set them to rest. On the second say, the day of the IJN spot, I absent mildly left them on rest. There would have been 50 fighters available for CAP if I had paid better attention to detail. An omission cost me.

Use up some supply and buy some of those barges that you get to run in cargo/supply and then use some of the APDs for troops. I'll use supply to buy barges and keep going until I get the mix I want. The rest I send back to the pool as they come back in 15 days. Have PT Boats go with them and they stay there by refueling from the barges (get some barges to load fuel).
Do you still have some of those small xAKLs from Australia you could use?? Some can carry small amounts of troops and are cheaper than those APAs. [;)]

I had not thought of the barges, I will look into when I get my May 31st turn back. I do have quite a few xAKs tied up in Tasmania, refugees from '41. Heres another enigma.

VMF-122 has 1st generation Corsair (F4U-1). These are NOT carrier capable!! Take them off, now. [;)]
EDIT:
VADM Mitscher should a CV TF leader, not a CV leader.
Some of those Australian xAKL/xAKs are able to upgrade to small xAPs, depending on scenario.

Aircraft held in reserve by squadron are counted in the aircraft capacity. Check to see if your squadrons are holding more than one or two reserve aircraft.

As Hornet is the only carrier remotely close to any Japanese, Mitscher is both TF CO and Captain, at least that's what I think is going on here. The Essex has arrived and made the west coast. She waits for several CVEs and the Lexington. The Lex is 17-18 days away from slipping out of dry dock. As it looks like NorPac may see a little action I may see if I can bag some IJN cruisers now spotted in the Bering Sea threatening Umnak, now a level 5 field, before joining Hornet in SoPac. As the next series of operations will not require the carriers, whatever I do with them will not incur undue risk to my small seaborne naval assets.

Yes Sir!
As I do not intend engaging Hornet in the near future she takes a large Avenger contingent aboard for ASW duty.

The saving grace in the action was the surprise at 2,000 yds the Canadians on the Prince Robert gave the IJN, pummeling their battleship before it could get inshore.

SoPac: Kira Kira hit by cruiser bombardment. It was seen in advance so caused minimal damage. Another set of cruisers spotted heading towards the Marines. CD gun landed one hit.
Burma: Will post soon. Large movement by allied forces in the jungles. IJA appears to be abandoning Lashio. Bombardment, also fore seen, hits Akyab for minimal damage. CD guns ineffective.
