T24 - Data

Post by Oshawott »

And finally the data including air losses.

It seems to me that the German bomber force is "kaputt". Reliable sources have confirmed that Goring (aka "Herr Meier") has dramatically increased his morphine intake.

He finally displaces the air base that was supplying the pocket. 6 divisions remain in Leningrad. I always thought it was pointless to supply pocketed troops without an airbase but it is not true. I supplied both stacks by air using all my remaining TB3 bombers and some transports and the CV value almost doubled from 20 to 38. This is a new experience for me. I like this game!

They might still be doomed, but I'm glad I fixed air supply in the last patches.

A very nice fix indeed. [&o]

Yes, they will be doomed I think. But they did withstand an attack on T29.

Statistics

Post by Oshawott »

Some statistical data

Total number of counterattacks between T10 and T24: 151
Total number of retreats: 146 (96.7 %)
Total number of held: 4 (2.6%)
Total number of scouted: 1 (0.7%)

Total number of attacks in clear: 132 (87.4%)
Total number of attacks in light woods: 14 (9.3%)
Total number of attacks in swamp: 5 (3.5%)

Total number of attacks requiring 1=2: 19 (12.5%)

People can make up their own mind regarding this data. I am sure many people will say that the game is FUBAR and the Russians are totally favored. But I think it is pretty obvious that many, many tactical mistakes have been made in this game. If you play against a counterattacker you just can't leave your units exposed in clear terrain all the time. 90.8% of all attacks were in favorable terrain (I count swamp as favorable because it was against tanks). I like a game were tactical mistakes get punished!

12.5% of attacks were successful because of 1=2. This is clearly a problem. The game would feel more realistic in 41 without this rule. However, I have to caution everyone. Now that I am playing the blizzard I am getting many, many 1=2 results because I am fighting against entrenched units. A good solution might be to eliminate the 1=2 rule but to also lower fortification levels for both sides to 75 or 50%.

i see your point but sometimes axis player must leave units in clear fields to seal the pockets. in my game vs. bomaaz he even won battles against 3 unit stacks in clear and thats unrealistic in 41. so he was able to reopen pockets again and again and slow down my advance. the russian counterattack ability in 41 is way too strong when one compares it with the reality. read glantz "when titans clash" and you see how uncoordinated and miserable russian attacks on german units where before the moscow offensive in december 41.

I am truly amazed at the combat results.

but I find the results of so many "retreats" inflicted upon a German player in 41 only possible against a German opponent who is completely inexperienced and totally unaware of the importance of hex control and movement mechanics in this game.

Hm, have you not read the AAR STEF78 vs Frogmarc? Calling my opponent "completely inexperienced" seems unjustified. I think he was simply surprised by my strategy and adapted too late. But now during blizzard things have changed and I am getting many Held results due to fortifications and reserve activation.

It is much harder playing the Axis then playing the Russians. MUUUUUUCH HARDER! This game is not over. I still have to figure out how to handle the Panzer Ball that will be coming my way in 42.

German player in 41 only possible against a German opponent who is completely inexperienced and totally unaware of the importance of hex control and movement mechanics in this game. You would not get away with that against a player like Flaviusx or Wheat.

I would like to see an AAR where you play an game as german against a good SHC player.

It is always easier to criticize then to act.

Yes don't disrespect the Axis players on this forum please. STEF78 is a good player, but he's up against a good Soviet player and what you see in this AAR is the roughly what I'd expect given the current state of the game. Flaviusx, by his own admission I seem to recall, isn't a particularly strong Axis player.

I only rarely play Axis and don't pretend any particular expertise there. I also think the game at present is somewhat slanted in favor of the Soviets between two good and skilled players for reasons that cannot be immediately fixed. (And the fixes tend to tip things too far in the other direction. The game is balanced on a knife edge and it is currently nearly impossible to hit the sweet spot absent fundamental game changes.)

Many battles this turn. In case you are wondering why I don't post HELD results. There are none. [X(] You have to wait for T16 to get the first HELD result and there are specific reasons for that.

One battle required the infamous 1=2 rule.

I managed to get 24 guard rifle divisions during the pre-blizzard campaign. I am also listing the units I lost during this time period.

I have a large number of units with 7 victories that have not switched to guard status. I am expecting a flood of new guard units during the blizzard.

T11 - Combats

Only 1 combat requires the 1=2 rule.

And thats why is should gone. Without this rule Soviets will still be perfectly capable of counter attacking but it will not be certain thing.

agree. 1:1 rule allows the red army to "produce" some totaly unrealistic comnbat results in 41.

Nonsense... It's because of rerolls.. The fact is, without the 1=2 rule, a legitimate Russian player would not be able to counter attack and win with the current constraints of the game mechanics in 1941.

You just never stop do you.

You have now accused someone of cheating in their own AAR where they have provided a lot of contextual information. Since you have no evidence, other than your own prejudices, that Oshawatt has been cheating, I strongly suggest its time you (a) stopped acting like a broken record; and, (b), more importantly, apologise

thank you

The reason why I like playing against human is because you don't know at the beginning of the game which kind of play you will face.

I'm sure that that Oshawott doesn't cheat. I don't need any file from Matrix.

He knows the mechanics of the game and counterattacks efficiently. Frogmarc was a passive defender and allowed me to move too freely. I got bad habits and I'm now back to reality.

Oshawott has a way of playing close from Schascha. Cautious defender, agressive counterattacker. Schascha was more efficient while using partisans and Oshwott is a better "bomber killer".

T25 - North

Post by Oshawott »

T25 - North

Alright, let's continue this AAR. In real life we are at T30 but I only now had time to prepare T25.

STEF78 is a very good defender. Many units are split up into regiments. The front line usually consists of a full division and a regiment. I think this maximized reserve activation. Motorized divisions are mainly used as reserves. Panzers for counterattacking. It is a very good setup!

On the first turn of blizzard I did nothing but deliberate attacks and I still got numerous HELD results. It looks like the Leningrad front is unbreakable. South of Lake Ilmen it is easier to make progress.

I continue to supply my troops at Leningrad. This is such an interesting situation.

T25 - Center

T25 - Center

16th and 13th army are the main attacking force. But 4th army is also quite strong. I was able to encircle one division. The paratrooper I landed was not really necessary. I just want to keep him guessing. I don't plan to use many paratroopers in this game.
