New Title Announced.

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

MikeGer, the true answer I don't know right now. We do need to have that ability for the far East and WW2 (hypothetically speaking of course) [;)]. Getting that wired in would be easier now then later, but it will take time away from something else.

I like the idea about a similar engine for different games. In this way all of them have theorically the same quality (there won´t be outdated games): If you like second world war you´re going to find something updated, if you love modern wars the same, etc. This is an idea followed in John Tiller games: http://www.johntillersoftware.com

That would be awesome! [:)]

I'll buy it whatever it is called. This project deserves support.

As long as user-created TOE's, maps, scenarios, etc., can be imported into the new engine I'll keep plugging away on my projects when I have the time.

Amen, sums up my feelings on the subject. I do get a little excited about this engine going to WW2.

Hi,

Great to see Flashpoint Campaigns thrive and you will get my money with the coming new title... ;).

However... was hoping that such a big leap forward would mean a move to WWII :).

Don’t get me wrong, am a huge fan of Fulda Gap type games, have nagged the guys a Battlefront for such a setting for Combat Mission for years, good to see I there and so outstandingly done. But.. it is a now and again, nice to have, side show... such a top class engine as you have here is wasted spending too long on a fictional setting.

Just to show how weird I truly am, yes it gets worse, I would love to see the 500m hex retained for a WWII setting.

Flashpoint Campaigns has been “the...” surprise wargame event of recent years. I was monitoring it in the hope of something playable come but with a very relaxed attitude and not expecting much... if you set really high standards there is very little out there. Then I played Flashpoint Campaigns and was shocked. I am not quite sure how you have done it... but the semi-operational feel to the game works fantastically.

It is that semi-operational feel that is the magic, for me anyway. A slower paced WWII setting would improve it even more. And.. the setting is more interesting because it happened.

Each to their own of course, but once you are down to true platoon game scale, platoons and 250m hexes, why not just play Combat Mission... ;).

Stick to what you do best, uniquely well, semi-operational scale.

We are all very lucky the development teams saw the potential in Flashpoint and delivered so fantastically,
All the best,
Kip.

Aloha,

What I would like to see is in the next iteration is expanded mechanics for engineers (more detailed river crossing, mine and obstacle placement and clearance), air assault, airborne landing, amphibious landing, and more detailed nuclear (ERW, different delivery types and yields) and chemical rules (agents with varying effectiveness - from WWI blister agents to SARIN/VX and worse) and more detailed Special Forces capabilities (infiltration, recon and ambush). With that, and the modding capabilities in the game, you could make Arab-Israeli wars, Scandinavia, Angola, Russia/China, Soviet Invasion of Hokkaido, North Korea/South Korea, China versus Taiwan,Rapid Deployment Force in SW Asia (an interest of mine I am tinkering with now), and India/Pak and just make World War III in the Central Front that more realistic. The additional functionality in the game is far more important to me than the setting.

This game is relatively easy to mod, but the engine limits it to Central Europe (and maybe the Middle East) at present. An effort to expand the engine will, in my opinion, increase the chances for this game to thrive through modding and allow its move to Korea, Vietnam and WWII (and hopefully Arab-Israeli and Indo-Pak) in the future.

That said, the game is excellent and I will purchase the next iteration without condition to support its development.

Thanks,

Mark

I want see a improved infantry model... the perfect thing is have in squad info the number of soldiers OK, WIA and KIA (or simple soldiers OK-casualties) but i think a simple model that shows the level of damage in the squad is good enough (you can see a % to show the squad combat value).

Ummm in the end you are going to work in the feature to have in same side diferent nations??? you know, soviet attack supported by east german units.

For me is more a question of minimize the number of installations to have same but with diferent scens/capaigns... apart with a single instalation you can create scens using all the OOBs you buy in a lot of maps (why not a scen in Fulda defense by french troops???).

When we talk about money... well, i allways think is better sell 2 by average 30 than sell 1 for 40, i allways like the tipical "you have first game??? you have a discount" system or the pack model, in the end you promove people like something buy 2 and you think in your first customers.

Sure is going to fall in my ambush the game but lets see how we arrive to 2015 i want at least 1 WWI title to the centenary hehehe.

We do plan on adding in missing or improve the detail level of a number of abstracted models in the game over time. Each update thus far has had enhancements and bug fixes and the next major release will have more of the same. We want to continue to expand the game and we also hope to see more scenarios and other mods flow out of the 2.04 update from the community as well. The open scenarios should help folks with a way to jump in by making variations based on the originals and then hopefully branch out into new material (or time in the 80s).

We continue to welcome your ideas and inputs and hope to keep providing you with a top notch gaming system.

Well, but dont make the same mistake like other dev. Its a great game but with some thinks i did not like. Missing SOP or holf fire command. For me the missing things make me having less fun when playing the game, sorry to say. And buying a new game just to get the features Iam missing, well, for me hard to take. Anyway, I liked the game.

No question about buying the new title, either as DLC or entirely new game

I'm hoping for improved engineering features (placing mines/obstacles, building improved positions or needing a engineer unit to blow bridges) and a host of scenario/campaign designer features and maybe a few years extra to the timeline (1970-1979).

Well, i prefer a DLC/add-on/expansion system because you have a single instalation with all OOBs and maps ready to be used with editor... i say in other post that for example with this you can have Fulda gap with french troops VS east germans for example [:)]

The new game looks great and i like the new interface colours i feel they add a more "mature" taste to teh game and map elevations are a great improvement now only need a little better urban art [&o]

The article, is in french but...

This [;)]and it's the third full version of the game in the same region of the world.

Love the second version a lot, but buying another full version at full price?

I don't really want the team involved in writing scenarios I'm too lazy to actualize myself.

I want more design tools, and more granularity.

Might as well make it extensible and robust while you're at it. [:'(]

WABAC,
What kind of design tools and what level of granularity? We are already very extensible and getting more robust by the day.[:D]

One thing I'd like to see is the ability to add sub-units in the sub-units section (see screen shot), we have the ability to delete sub-units but having a pop-up menu of all/any sub-units or only sub-units that are part of the unit to enable us to increase/'un-delete' would be great

Tazak, Rob and I had a discussion this weekend about having the ability to do something similar to that. I was talking about adding a way to swap subunits around inlet wee formations and also having a way to click on a unit and bring up a selection menu to change units on the fly. We will be discussing this more at Origins in 3 weeks.
