Since there is historical precedent, I'd suggest that the crews of both CLVs request to keep the names of their ships, and that the ships be given cruiser (ie. river) names. A few candidates are:

- Ishikari
- Teshio
- Tokachi
- Kushiro
- Shiribetsu
- Tokoro

Those are some of the longest rivers in Hokaido, which would suit the expected or perceived importance of the ships, after all.

As for how to arrange them, I'd divide Kido Butai in three CarDivs, with 2x CV and 1x CVL each, and would add the two CLVs to the CVE force. Locations... your choice :)

Great Thoughts Bill and Kita! Will think on it some.

I've thought of continuing the convention set in RA and 2 CV and a CVL OR CLV for the CARDIVs...

The Aussies will start with the CLV Melbourne at Sydney so that will be nice. Gonna have to create that ship. Think we'll go through with a British Hawkin's Conversion with two twin 8" Turrets and an air complement of 16 Fighters and 12 Swordfish. What could the Aussies get from the Brits for aircraft? Will have to open lines for both with this addition.

Like Michael's idea regarding HMS Vindictive serving with Hermes in Ceylon.

On the American side I think having CLV Charlotte with the Pensacola TF remains the same while adding the Jacksonville to the Asiatic Fleet makes some serious sense. How about the USA reinforces the Asiatic Fleet in the summer of 1941 with CA Burlington, CLV Jacksonville and a division (4) of newer DDs? Would serve to bolster the 'deterrent factor' prior to the war as well as help Gen Douglas with the American reversal to actually build-up and DEFEND the Philippines.

With some luck the Allies could pool together FOUR CLV and have a rather potent Striking Force.

As to the Japanese, I like adding the two CLV to the Kido Butai setting up CARDIV1 (Akagi/Amagi/CVL Ryukaku), CARDIV2 (Soryu, Hiryu, and CLV Tokachi, and CARDIV5 (Shokaku, Zuikaku, and CLV Kushiro). This would leave CVL's Ryujo and Zuiho as well as CVE's Hosho, CVE Zuiyo, and Taiyo.

Wouldn't any carrier assets the RAN had be in the Med at the start of the war? Australia has no fighters at start because they were operating with the RAF.

If I had a CLV in Australia at start, I would offload the airgroup and move them to the Solomons. It would be the only fighters available close to the Solomons at the start and throw the balance off a bit.

Option B for the Brits and Aussie naval deployments would be them to be escorting the 18th UK Division out of Cape Town. Winston feels this TF needs to get through to Singapore.

KB now with 6 heavy CV and 3 CVLs or CLVs is really going to hurt Pearl. Maybe CarDiv 2 (2 CVs and CVL/CLV) is in SRA while the remaining CVL and/or CLV are with KB. These 2 CVL/CLVs break off after Pearl to support Wake invasions and then Gilberts, if Japanese players wants to. This would reflect the divided desire of the IJN to have forces in the SRA to seize oil and Yamamoto's wanting to hit the US Pacific Fleet.

Figure older fighters. What would be appropriate for the the 'cast off' flagship of the Royal Australian Navy?

Covering those TF would be important. Could easily see Hermes and the Brit CLV being assigned for that. Perhaps the Brit CLV arrives WITH the 18th ID reinforcement? Might be a useful idea.

Certainly think the Japanese would strip off the 'Junior' CARDIV2 for coverage in the DEI. Hit PH with CARDIV1 and 5 AND have the ability to strip off ships for Raiding purposes. LIKE THAT option!

Sea Gladiators? You'd have to set up a separate upgrade path for the RAN aircraft. You don't want them using FAA aircraft or with PDU on they could upgrade to relatively decent fighters fairly quickly.

What about the Wasp? How about building it as another Yorktown instead of a stand alone?

Hi Guys.

I have been stuck in remodeling HELL the last two weekends. We've added a wall on the first floor making a bed room out of an office for my youngest, am working on adding a storage closet in the attic on the second floor. Progress has been slow.

As to working on this, I am ALL FIRED UP to get it rolling. This will be far simpler then RA because it is taking DB-C and simply adding ships to it. Piece of cake. Hope to get some work done tomorrow and/or Tuesday. Will keep everyone appraised.

As to Wasp, we need to see the flow of the building. As I see it, the Japanese--Americans build the two big conversions then try to pack TOO MUCH into a pair of little CVs (Ranger--Ryujo), work the CLV angle with mixed results, and are then allowed to use the rest of their treaty tonnage by building a true proto-CVL for both navies. Would need to do the tonnage game to see where Wasp ends up...

Thanks GP.

I am having wiring issues. Am running a simple splice off of an existing line and it won't work. I think I bought the wrong size of wire. Am going to look at that and see if that is the issue. Wasted most of the afternoon on it: STUPID! Going back to it right now and see if that is the problem.

Going to need some serious mental R&R so that means some Mod work.

Looking around at some stuff I had on my computer.  We could build out the Marine defense Bats with the battalion of inf that was authorized.

John, 5th paragraph down. In 41 the Marine CD units where authorized to have an 850 man inf battalion with them to be a fire and maneuver team on the islands.  It never happened due to the war starting but it would work pretty well with stacking limits.  No need to have additional Rgts or anything.  Interesting article.  I also like the idea of putting a plt of light tanks with them.
