Weapon Images

Post by Unforeseen »

Is there a place where i can see which weapon each image represents? They are all, irritatingly labeled Beam or Torpedo in most cases even if that weapon is definitely neither.

It will almost certainly be easier once Universe is out. By then you'll have access to all the component details, including which images are used by which weapons. At that point it ought to be easy as pie to replace images or simply point the components to other images.

@Mad Igor i tried for hours with google and other search engines to find a list.

@Spidey Hopefully, i just wish there was a release date.

I could technically test all of the weapons to see what they look like but it would take ages.

Anyways thanks for the replies :D

Yeah the only one i could find only displayed a couple of the weapons and it was for a star trek mod. Still looking but no matter what word combinations you put in, you only get about a page of decent results due to the various other things named distant worlds. You could always just send me a link...

Edit: The good news is that while obsessively searching for this supposed list that igor says he found in 5 minutes i found some decent torpedo sprites that we're superior to the ones i already have. Still don't have a list, honestly i could probably figure it out if i played through a game and obtained all of the weapons tech. Could probably do it in about a day...but i know that if i try to run my game with how it is currently it will just crash as soon as the game loads. Lots of work to do.

The reason i'm so interested is because i want to get the colors right, i don't want to accidentally for instance change the ion cannon to red.

Hello Unforeseen. There is a way, but unfortunately it takes a bit of detailing to make it
work out the way I believe you want.

You need to decipher the 'Components'.txt file and using the two control sections shown below you
can individualize (mod basically) each weapon and the image/sprite/color used. Similar to what Igard
did in his Star Trek mods with the Photon Torpedoes and Phasers colors and images. Hope this sets
you in the right direction!

' - PictureRef: index value mapping to image used to display component (images\ui\components folder)

' - Special Image Index: index value mapping to special image set for component type (images\ui\effects\weapons folder)
Shields are useless in "The Briar Patch"...
