I don't use IE and have no idea if windows what ever is enabled

Well. Whatever. Unless ur computer is ancient it's prolly xp or win7. Just buy the game if u want it an click yes at the prompts, it'll work. You're worried about nothing.

Works fine on my machine.

If one is going to base a buying decision on how some can't get it to run, then why not base the decision on how it does work for so many more?

What you are probably referring to is IE security, and preventing it from running. IE version 6 and 7 were particularly bad. With those versions, I would go into the IE settings, and hamstring it by not allowing it to do anything.

This can cause problems in other apps, because it's very easy to embed IE into your windows application (as a programmer) for a free browser for html content on the machine or elsewhere. So you will only have problems if you specifically did something to IE settings, or if you uninstalled it/never installed it.

From what I understand, the only place DW makes use of the IE plug-in is the Glactopedia, which is the on-screen help. I am not sure, but that should not prevent the rest of the game from running.

I received Distant Worlds Universe yesterday (the physical version, the past holiday slowed down delivery by a couple days [:(]) and besides the excellent "Galactopedia" (the in game information resource) it comes with a very handy and well written physical game manual...quite pleased! [:)]
