DW Universe - Weird diagonal lines appearing

Just now, for the past hour of play, I am seeing these weird diagonal lines during gameplay. When I scroll and move the screen around a bit they sometimes disappear, sometimes they don't.

Really weird, never did this before.

Anyone an idea what is causing this[:(]?

I'm running on a a MSI GX60 laptop, 8gb RAM, AMD Radeon hd 7970m 2gb ddr5, win8.

That looks like the fog of war when you can't see in a system because you have no ships/bases there.

Hm weird, so it is intentional?

Why haven't I seen this before then?
