Complete Edition, or Coming to Steam?
Just curious if there is any plan on releasing a version with all expansions for a discounted price?
Really would like to purchase this, but spending $105 is a bit much for me =)
Additionally, now that some Matrix games are showing up on steam, any word if Command Ops going to?
Thank you!

To add to this question, is Command Ops going to be available on OS X?
Thanks

I'm no STEAM hater - in fact 90% of the 90 or so games I've got installed on my PC came straight off of steam BUT - Command Ops just isn't STEAM material. Visit a few of the STEAM game forums and you'll see why I say that.

I don't think that's true at all - I'm not sure what you mean.

For an extreme example of what I mean visit the Rome 2 forum on STEAM.
After you become thoroughly disgusted pick any other forum for a Steam game - same thing - well almost - maybe only a third as bad.
STEAM has a lot of good games with millions of subscribers. You wouldn't know it though from the quality of posts made on the forums. CO doesn't need the type of bad press it would get from a typical STEAM forum poster who would buy CO based on STEAM hype and get something else than what he expected and was too dumb to play anyway. Wouldn't be his fault though he'd tell ya it'd be CO's fault for a host of ignorant reasons that the poster would feel free to rant about all while gathering sheep like hangers on only too eager to agree.
Keep in mind I've got over 90 games installed on my PC. Most came from STEAM. I like STEAM - BUT - I've got absolutely no respect for the intelligence nor the almost non-existent ability to participate in civil discourse by the typical forum poster there though. It's unfortunate that the minority posting there is the most vocal, the most uncivil of any group I've ever seen on the internet and I've been using the internet since it was AARPA!

RE: Complete Edition, or Coming to Steam?
Indeed making wargames like the ComOps system an integral part of a broader picture of PC based games along with any other type of arcade shooter is a misunderstanding at best - they all represent the overall category of pastime based on virtual environment, but it's a far cry from having anything else in common so let's not make both sides unhappy by making them have to interact - people and elephants walk the same earth, but rarely do choose to live together.

I agree... I do not want to see CO "dumbed down to the lowest common denominator" which is basically a necessity for most steam games... the players of that category of games want arcade style, incredibly unrealistic games..which is fine, they can have them lol, just don't make mine into one.
RE: Complete Edition, or Coming to Steam?
Here goes with my two pennie's worth, on the subject of Command Ops on steam.
While I agree with a lot of what has been said above about the Steam forums, and the quality of the posting, the same can be said for many places where a vast mix of people, with varying ages and views, from all walks of life, race, and nationality mix.
I very rarely read the comments under the video clips on Youtube for example as most of it is complete ****.
The reality is that I think Command Ops needs Steam to continue to be a success, and to fund further development.
I remember the backlash by the community on the Hearts of Iron Forum when Paradox went steam.
There were a lot of disgruntled die hard forumite's, that had been Paradox fans for years, and the threads went on, and on, with concerns, some valid, and some bizarre!
It went ahead anyway, and I believe that Steam now contributes to about 80% of Paradox's sales.
I already had the HOI series in box copies, but I still bought the games on Steam just for the convenience of not having to change the disc every time I wanted to play the game.
All my other games are from Steam.
This is the only one where I went out of my way to create a new account with Matrix in order to purchase it, and that was only made after extensive research into the game, partly because of the high sale price.
That brings me to the point of the cost of this game. Its was way above the average price of a game, when first released. This is mainly because it is targeted at a niche market, that generally has a low volume of sales.
In order to bring down the cost of the game it needs more sales. To get more sales the game needs to cost less. Steam will help with the sales figures, without a doubt.
It will undoubtedly bring in disgruntled posters, with unrealistic expectations, expecting the kind of game that they are more used to, with development budgets close to £50 million.
I love the close knit community here, and the thought of having it invaded by hundreds of ranting threads, and Trolls, is not an attractive one, but I feel it may be necessary for us to endure it for a while, for the well being of the Command Ops series.
I would like to think we are all mature enough here to ride over that wave, ignore those where we need to, and help those with genuine problems, and queries on the game, so they can learn to enjoy it as much as we do.
For every 10 Troll's we might just get a very nice mature poster to join us for the long term. We may even get some young new blood in here for a while, before they move back to killing other players in Call of Duty online [:D]
Well that was probably more than two penny's worth, so flame away [;)]

All this talk of Steam made me fire it up for a quick browse, and I found this movie, that literally blew me away.
Where I have been messing about with Adobe After Effects, I can really appreciate the work that went into this clip, and think its awesome!
This is the Youtube link for it if you want to take a look.

I agree with you Daz, as long as the end result is not changing the game to fit the ideals of most of those trolls lol.
On the other hand I also am one of those who would pay even a lot more, for the game to stay true to itself in its future iterations. I do not see the problem spending $100 USD for something that provides far more entertainment than 1 night at the ballgame or at a concert, for instance, for roughly that price, etc.

I can't see Steam making any real difference. Some games in the Slitherine group family will really benefit others won't.
I also don't agree that it can only continue if it went to Steam. Steam or no steam the pace of development would be the same..the amount of things in the pipeline would be the same. Dave doesn't do this as his main income. It's a hobby\sideline.

Opinion on what?
On Steam? I'm going by previous comments by Matrix themselves. I'm going by the types of Games on Steam and it's overall demographic. There will be people out there who know nothing of PC wargames but would want to play them, though I expect few and far between. Any curiosity will lead you to google and then to Slitherine, HPS etc etc. The only way I see getting new blood if on steam is if it's on some extremely low price sale so people will take a risk. Then those that loved it will pay full price for any later release.
So my opinion is based on the limited knowledge I have which leads me to think that CO wouldn't suddenly get a huge flood of cash and new players if it went on Steam. Only if it went on Steam at a low price.
I'm in no way bothered if it goes on Steam or not, infact it would be handy if it did and we got Steam keys. I just don't think CO needs saving and if it did I doubt Steam would be the answer. The answer is don't rely on game developing as a full time job\income if your going to make wargames. Do it because you enjoy it and if you can make abit of money aswell all the better.

RE: Complete Edition, or Coming to Steam?
I would generally agree with Wodin. However, I was surprised to read a Steam post from an "avid sci-fi 4x" player who was going absolutely nuts because he never knew about Distant Worlds. Now that is a problem. So better CO gets some airtime on wargame-oriented game sites to prosper than get married to Steam.
RE: Complete Edition, or Coming to Steam?
Another issue I feel is that mos of the Steam crowds experience of wargames recently will be the cheap IOS games. Thus making them feel that a wargame isn't really worth more than a few dollars\pounds. Unity of Command price is prob the highest you could push it. Still I think if it went on Steam the best thing would be to release it pretty darn cheap. Then you get the impulse buyers who are curious about wargames but not enough to risk too much money on. If they love it then you've got a new customer for the next release.
