World at War a World Divided

I recently bought Grigsby's World at War a World Divided. I am playing it by myself at the moment as the Soviet Union. I have tried on several occasions over the first 3 turns to save the game but receive an error message it cannot be saved. I also have automatic save on and still have no saves after several turns. Please advise on what I am doing wrong.
