strange TFs near Pearl

Post by GeorgePatton »

I'm playing Allies using v1.7.11 23x5 (campaign game Scenario 2 Hakko Ichiu) and started to see some strange things on screen as to Japanese TFs. At first it might have been intelligence errors but then seeing LBs (landing barges?) at Pearl Harbor..then I started seeing PT boats appear at Pearl also.

But none of my air assets or surface ships were able to engage this ghost TF and this TF has been sitting at Pearl for over a week now.

Also the BB Ramilies was sunk but the combat text report read BB Oklahoma was sunk instead.

Strange

sorry I can't seem to upload my screenshots. If anyone wants to see them, pls email me. I have them saved as JPGs.

I had the same TF. I put PT's on the case and they took care of it. Don't know why air or other types of TF's didn't do the job. The other thing is just FOW. GP

In multiple games I have seen the AI send LB TFs from Wake toward Pearl and FF Shoals.

No idea why it does so.

Bombers normally wont target landing barges. Fighters on NAV attack at 100 feet will.

Fighter Bombers will also attack barges when set to Naval Attack.
Not sure about the altitude though.

To attack barge and PT boats from the air you have to have your aircraft set to 100 ft.

If you have fog of war turned on, the reports will show the wrong information for a while after an event. That may be why the Oklahoma was reported sunk.

Ok I do have FOW turned on so I figured that was why I got the incorrect message. The sunk ship list does list the BB Ramillies as accurately being sunk.

As for the LB targetting, I didn't know that. But strange that the LBs never landed at Pearl. The TF just stood out there in Pearl for over a week.

Anyway I'll set my bombers to target them at 100 ft then next time. Thanks

The LB task force probably never existed.  Or it was a misreported submarine. FOW causes a lot of spurious contact reports.
