How can I stop Allied Armored LCUs ?

Post by oaltinyay »

I am playing as japanese and it's 2H of 1943. Allied armored LCUs punch holes in my lines everytime they attack - even in the jungle. At best, I can hold them for a dozen days, their constant shock attacks eventually shatter my defenses. Should I call some German PAK units ? Air power doesnt seem to help also...besides it's too costly...

You need to cut off their supply if you can. Shock attacks are very costly in terms of disruption and fatigue. Reducing disruption and fatigue requires ample supply. You can try bombing them but I can see how that could be too costly in terms of airframe losses. You can also try cutting his supply lines with suicide units, or a more conventional encirclement by trying to do to him what Eisenhower did to the Germans with the Bulge.

You could also use dedicated AT gun units. You don't get many, but you do get some. Unfortunately they pretty much all start either in China (where there are no tanks...) or restricted in Japan.

Basically you won't if the Allied player uses them well. There is a real basis for this as the Japanese never really came up with a suitable solution. Good terrain, forts and high quality troops are the best you can do. If he moves in the open, hit him with bombers. That will wear him down a bit. As said, mixing your armor and AT units will help but not much.

I know that... I was actually looking for a way out before I bowed to the inevitable.

+1
Yaab is right, you can buy some extra medium and heavy artillery units in manchuria if you need more; army 75mm guns are too light, they’re useless against tanks.
Heavy art destroy all kind of allied tanks and have a good range so they can fire also when Allies deliberate attack.

I was wondering about this too, surprised planes doesnt do much good, would say depending on skills and leadership. Tactical bombers may have a chance to get some kills, but single engine bomers would be more effective like the vals or multi-role fighter-bombers.

Look at my former opponents AAR here: tm.asp?m=2953587

He quite effectively stopped a massed allied armor thrust in Korea. Don´t know what he did but it worked.

I seem to recall you had only two routes out and he just about threw everything he had left at you. Armoured forces need manouvre, if they have this then they are very powerful indeed. Rightly so.

Well bombers do work if you pile them on. However, historically the Japanese never really had the ability for that sort of tactical mission. The Allies took a while to get there as well.

Obviously trite advice, but mostly correct none the less: From a strategic, rather than tactical view, you should fight the tail rather than the head. Once the allied player has the supplies and support in place to support an armoured offensive it is a bit late for the Empire to be trying to come up with solutions.

Well, I suspect that the IL2s in game would be worthless as strafing with MGs and cannons is not that effective. It is bombs that kill tanks in the game so medium bombers with 250 KG bombs or larger are your best bet.

And the biggest bombload the IJAAF gets is 4x250kg. It doesn't seem like a good total load for very long :(.

Does the type 99 AA 88mm work well ?
The type 3 medium tank Chi-nu is supposed to deal with sherman too, don't know if a lot of unit can use it though [&:]
