Is the AI challenging for single player?

Post by R48 »

I don't PBEM much so I was wondering if UV had a good AI for the single player mode. Can the AI beat the player when playing as the Japanese or American side? Is the AI challenging?

Thanks

One opinion only.

The AI is a sufficiently capable opponent to keep you entertained over the many hours it takes to master this game. By then you probably would have got your moneys worth for the purchase.

From the forums, you'll see a lot of players still getting satisfaction from single player games even after they have mastered UV. For others, PBEM will have becomes the only way to go (anything else is for girlies).

From my experience, the AI is often capable of meeting and defeating player operations but you would have to be very unlucky (or stupid) to lose a major long campaign scenario to the AI (the AI just isn't flexible enough).

The real enjoyment value of UV (even against the AI) lies more in the gameplay and its operational planning, logistics, battles, etc and less in the size of the final victory level achieved (well, for those who don't suffer from penis envy, anyway).

One note on PBEM, until I bought UV, I had no interest in PBEM gaming at all. This game definitely makes it worthwhile.

Just a little more info, the shorter the scenario you play, the better the AI performs as it doesn't need to look at the bigger picture which you will always be able to do better then it.

There are hardcoded objectives for the AI and it goes after those pretty single minded. If you ignore this and work around the *known* presets, you'll kill the AI. Since you are new, you will not know these yet and can have lots of fun getting creamed by the AI.

The difficulty level should be played at historical (never play at easy as it will just teach you bad things). Any harder then that and the game cheats a bit to make things tougher.
