why do screens not retain the last setting?

Distant Worlds is a vast, pausable real-time, 4X space strategy game which models a "living galaxy" with incredible options for replayability and customizability. Experience the full depth and detail of large turn-based strategy games, but with the simplicity and ease of real-time, and on the scale of a massively-multiplayer online game. Now greatly enhanced with the new Universe release, which includes all four previous releases as well as the new Universe expansion!

why do screens not retain the last setting?

Post by vmxa_slith »

Just do not understand why a game many years out has not fixed screens to retain the last usage I made. IOW if I go to design screen and select display military ships, when I come back it is at some default setting, not the one I used.

This occurs in many places and waste a lot of my time, in a game that uses so many interactions as it is. Can we not save a little, is it that hard to code?

Has been a requested feature many times before. But not added yet.

Yeah +1 for this one. Especially the select military ships thing. This is really annoying. It would be great if the the devs could comment on this:)

Yeah, I had no doubt. Maybe now that it is on Steam and getting a larger exposure. Just like the font that probably was mention day 1 of the original series. Finally got some help. Atill many places that are hard to read, but some help.

It would save some time indeed. Hope it will get added with some patch to DWU.

At the moment it would seem that you must make the automation choices from the options menu at game set up. I too wondered why my own designs were not saving. After a little experiment yesterday I turned off automation for Ship/Base design, Character placement and Fleets and voila now my designs save and stay right where they should be in the design menu. If you turn off automation from the design menu it will just stay on automatic so I suspect that something has gone awry somewhere as this never happened in any of the previous versions.

My pet peeve is the F3 Empire Planner screen. I usually want it to show resource targets by empire priority, but it always defaults to colonies, and I always have to switch it.

Yet another annoying default. Just let them retain the last setting used.
