Badly in Need of Tactics Advice/Tutorials!

Post by apoll »

Hello. Trying to get a handle on this excellent simulation. After some tactical advice here. Playing the Japanese against the PLAN over the Senkoku Islands: the community scenario called Four Ounces etc. Anyway, I literally don't have anywhere near enough missiles to come even close to stopping the two groups of Chinese vessels coming at me. I fire about 6 to 8 missiles at each contact, and most of them are swatted out of the sky. Maybe one gets through. With that sort of defensive capability, one would need to swamp their defensive capabilities with bucket loads of missiles, but these ships have such a limited supply...no where near enough. All I can do is fire my lot and bug out pretty quick, or get slaughtered in return. What gives? These expensive assets really only have one good shot in them? Doesn't seem right, and if it is, then they need to sack the ship designers. What am I missing? Any advice from you experienced players out there? How do maximise my chances of hitting them with a missile salvo? How do I stop 99% of them from being swatted from the sky? Does the angle that you fire them matter? Do I charged head on or ambush from the side? All these questions...I could really do with an advanced tactics tutorial...if there is such a beast out there... Any advice gratefully received...

This is a well balanced cagey battle, one strike won't do everything, both sides have advantages. I'd say for Japanese you tend to have some quiet subs and the air defences are good.

I tend to go with using the ECM to stop PLAN getting a good lock, then repeated attacks by missiles.
However you only are really going to succeed if you get some at least sub attacks in first.
At minimum the subs need to get off their SSM's. Ideally you need to reposition them so they tackle at least one of the SAG with a follow on torpedo attack.

For the Harpoon strikes I seem to recall I preferred firing at least four against each target, and using as many of my ships at the same time as possible. IE if you have some ships that are unable to fire being out of range, you wait until it is a coordinated launch.

I don't recall keeping any back for a second follow on launch to be truthful. That won't kill everything, but whats left will be down to a gun battle, and by then you should hopefully have numbers on your side.
