I need to get rid of a planet

I have invaded a pirate planet in the middle of the territory of one of my allies, pretending to gift it to then as soon as possible. But I have just discovered that there is no gift planet option, and now I have a colony in the other side of the galaxy, surrounded by other empire.

Is there a way to get rid of it?

Not that I know of. If you can make it count as "contested", you could trade it away. I am not sure if any planet is "contested", but a minor planet in a capital system could be, for instance.

You can use the editor (5h icon from the left in top bar).

Then select the planet in the editor and change allegiance.

You can do anything with the editor. I don't quite see the point of playing with the editor as a weapon of choice.

Take all troops off planet and tax them into revolt and destroy the space station ? [:D]

Or just remove all troops, give them no space station and tax them normally. If any race complains they'll probably be happy to take the planet into their custody, if not, well there's no real problem then.
