Allied saved build points lost

Post by Courtenay »

I had reported this bug a long time ago, but now it is worse.

The problem is that Allied saved build points disappear when the Axis builds units. See the saved game. It was made during German production, after the Germans had made all their builds. Open the production screen, and click on China and Russia. You will see that China has two saved build points and Russia one.

Now, say that you are done with German production. MWiF will move to Italian production. Again, inspect the Chinese and Russian production. You will (I think) see that the Chinese and Russian saved build points have disappeared.

Up until now, this bug has been intermittent. If I repeat saves from the Use Oil step or the Break down units step, eventually I will get a game where the saved build points don't disappear. This time, however, I have made repeated tries, and the build points have disappeared every time. I will give it a few more tries, and will post if any are successful.

If anyone can get this game to use the saved Allied build points, please let me know how you did it. Thank you.

P.S. I just noticed another problem: During German production, MWiF says that Germany is trading two BPs to Russia, which is correct. After German production, only one BP is being traded. I have not seen this behavior before, and do not know if it happens every time, but it is disturbing that it has happened once.

There is indeed something strange happening. If you load the production screen for f.e. China, those two saved build points don't appear anymore after the German production phase had been done. However, during production itself, those two saved build points are available to build units. So at that point I thought it was only a cosmetic issue.

However, when I arrived at the USSR production, I suddenly got 1 BP less, than the USSR was entitled to get. Now, during the games I've played so far, I've never noticed anything out of the ordinary (I just redid a production phase which I did recently with the AAR, and I can't seem to get any mistakes there). Strange, very strange.

This needs investigating by Steve, because it beats me...

Interesting. When I play the game, the issue is not cosmetic: When I get to Chinese build screen, they only have four build points. I have had this bug on almost every turn, but up to now it has been intermittent for me; sometimes I get the build points, and sometimes I don't. This time, however, I never got the build points despite trying several times. However, you got the build points, so it seems I was just unlucky, and if I try a few more times, I might get the build points. I am using 1.1.9.2 public beta.

I will try a few more times, this time restarting the computer and the game, and see if that makes any difference.

Here is a picture of the Chinese production screen. The Chinese have 4 BPs, not the 6 they should have.

The beta team is currently using 1.1.9.3, which is almost exactly the same as 1.1.9.2 (only debug programs added). So there shouldn't be a difference...

I tried the production cycle many times, and was never able to get any Allied saved build points. Here is a saved game from after production.

I would appreciate it if one of the playtesters would use the debug tool to add two Chinese and one Russian build point. I really hope this bug is fixed, since the US saved 9 BPs this turn, since they ran into a major gearing limit problem.

Thank you.

I am sorry, but I have never been able to add buildpoints with the debugtool.

Now, I've put those build points in your game. My version is however 1.1.9.3. I believe that Lex (AxelNL) had a magic wand to change the version number (I'm totally at a loss with computers, I'm afraid).

I hope everything is still working correctly after this correction, because the debug tool is known to do some strange things sometimes, which can occur later in the game...

Open the save file with Notepad. The version number is in the first part. Edit only the minimum to change the version number.
No garantuees, but until now it has worked for me.

Thank you very much. Renaming the file to 1.1.9.2 worked. I had to tell MWiF to use my screen layouts and not Peter's, but that seems to be fine.

The only thing that worries me now is that if one goes to the Unit screen (cntl-^U), and clicks on build points, in addition to the two Chinese BPs and one Russian BP added to the map, one sees that there are now two Chinese BPs labeled "Future force pool addition". This worries me, because I am not sure that MWiF will know what to do when it tries to add BPs to the force pool. (This example shows why Steve does not want to let the debug tool into general release.)

I made a mistake there with the 2 BP at first. That isn't going to be a problem at all, since they are not on the map and (more importantly) there isn't any way you can put those on the map (except by using Debug). If BP are created in Debug, they all are stated to be in the future pools. If you leave them there, they don't have any effect at all on the game.
