Pirate freighters landing at my space ports

Post by rcuadro »

Late game, when my scanning technology advances far enough, I detect pirate freighters landing at my space ports. In most cases, before I can even get to see them, they're blown away by automated defenses.

Are those ships bringing me resources as per my smuggling missions? Or are they trying to do something nefarious? Because if they are bringing me resources, I'd say blowing them away is a bug. If they are trying to do something nefarious, then okay but I'd love to know how to turn off that alert.

I don't think its a bug, but a feature. Are those freighters have grey circles around them or do they have colored indicating they are indeed pirate freighters. If they are, then that means the pirate freighters have been "identified" and military forces will automatically shoot them down.

Think about it in real life. If your smuggling drugs to another country, the foreign authorities aren't just gonna allow you to slip by are they [:'(]?

If they're picking up material to carry it to someone I've imposed trade sanctions on, then I'm fine with that behavior. But if they're coming to drop off materials that I've requested via a Smuggling contract - 100 credits for every 100 units of materials dropped off for example - then I'd probably like to let them through. I figure the one's I'm paying protection money can come and go as they please. But I'd like the resources even if I have to give money to a pirate I don't like.

Foxxy the difference is the government intentionally sanctioned the smugglers activity. Also, had the smuggling been unsanctioned then the government likely would have confiscated the materials aboard the ship rather than destroy it outright.

I suggested something like this a few days ago, it is fairly silly that empires will blow away freighters that are delivering requested resources to them. Hopefully it can be fixed.

Hmmm... and yet, late game, I have seen identified pirate freighters safely docked at a gas mining station, no notification of a raid or anything. [&:]

If a planet requested resources it really should let them through. Without request they are just criminals interfering with lawful trade.
