Possible supply bug

Post by Oshawott »

I think I found another possible supply bug. This has happened to me in a couple of games. I happens rarely and so far has not caused any problems in my games. But I would like to know if other players have experienced this and what the cause might be.

The problem is that tank brigades can suddenly be stuck with 1 MP for no clear reason. In this game the two brigades received no fuel on T38 and T39 even so they were close to the rail head and to the HQ. This is a server game so I can't provide any saves.

This has happened to me before and sometimes with tank brigades in the rear on rail lines.

We met same thing in our game several times for both sides. That was the reason we stopped our game with Beekeeper on T107 when 2 tank corps received no fuel. Saves are uploaded and available. tm.asp?m=3630700
Every time the problem took place in St. Russa - V.Luki sector.

HQ supply details would be more helpful. Best would be a save from the previous turn.

So the HQ was unable to get any fuel from Ostrov. I'm not responsible for the functions that move supplies and fuel between cities and that's where the problem lies. Only a save from previous turn would help to find out why.

This is caused by airbases sucking all available fuel (you moved a lot of transport planes there to 8th LW AB and they created a need of 8k fuel, while the AB got only 3k, and there wasn't enough for other units). The system isn't forgiving when moving a lot of airgroups at once (like moving all Soviet airforce on T1 to reserve and back on T2 - will kill trucks).

...the good news is that I have found a bug where needs of aircraft weren't included in airbase needs reported to given city (so it never asked for that extra fuel, but wanted to get it in later phase). Expect this to be fixed for 1.08.

Now that I look at it more closely, the aircraft need should be accounted for. I will debug that situation.

Bug fixed. But we are walking a thin line here. Single unit can request at most 32k fuel, while a single city can request at most 65k fuel. I can't extend those variables as there is no space (in case of city). That single airbase wanted 9.5k fuel and this caused a bug in the function that calculated 110% of need to be reported to the city (calculations were on lbs not tons) due to overflow. I have fixed that bug and added checks not to overflow request variables (so 33k fuel will be reported as 32k fuel and not 0k), but that's all I can do. The fix will be in 1.08.

Anyway, such big transfers are dangerous to trucks - that single airbases requires over 22 000 trucks to move the required fuel and supplies... It's better to move entire airbase with aircraft rather than transfer aircraft to new base (I mean transport and level bomber aircraft). When doing such transfers (or moves from reserve) do them in steps.

while a single city can request at most 65k fuel.

Does it depend on the size of a city?
