Ah look, I can't post a link...

Go to textmechanic dot com and click 'Generate List Of Numbers'.

Check 'Pad' to get it to start at 001. Put the name of your class in 'prefix numbers with', followed by a space. In suffix, put a comma then a space. Erase what's in 'join with'. At the bottom, check 'Dos wrap is off'. Click Generate. Boom, 100 numbered ship names, ready to paste into your shipNames.txt.

Why I like this:

Naming the ship after its role puts the capability in BIG letters instead of the harder to read small letters. Especially since I put them in all caps.

Since there is no difference between an escort and a capital ship, I personally changed the names to CLASS A, CLASS B, etc. Of if for example you like to always make your escorts with lots of engines, SPEEDY tells you more than 'Escort' does.

Yes, you lose the romantic, but you gain in practicality.

Yeah, they're just names. If your build size limit is 230, there's nothing stopping you from designing a "capital ship" that is size 230. It's not like something you need to unlock, those 'bigger' ship sizes.

And while we're at it, you can actually name an Energy lab an "Energy _something_".

Put 3 lines in the shipnames.txt

HighTechResearchStation:
WeaponsResearchStation:
EnergyResearchStation:

and put what you want after each one. You have to start a new game to see them, I think.

Crazy why this isn't in the base game! You make an Energy Lab, you kinda want Energy somewhere in the title, no?
