I was up at the (not quite so) local hospital a few days back. I've had an issue for a while where I lose the circulation and feeling in three fingers on my right hand and my little finger suffers from pins and needles. Initially I was diagnosed with Reynaud's phenomenon, later 'upgraded' to a full on syndrome and then back to phenomenom, and sent off for some x-rays and nerve conduction tests.

The upshot of that was that I've 'failed' the tests on three counts, the first thing I was told (on Wednesday afternoon) was that I was showing some signs of arthritic type development on the r/h side of two vertebrae in my neck. At the hospital on Thursday I was told that in addition to that, the nerve conduction tests flagged up some potential issues. But best of all, the x-rays showed I had a cervical rib, i.e. a free rib at the top of my ribcage/neck. Any one of those three things could be causing my symptoms or it could be none. [X(]

Coming soon(ish), more tests with an MRI and MRA scan in my future. And maybe some surgery. But no Falklands! [8D] I'm also imagining/experiencing occasional pain in my shoulder area after being told of my bonus rib.[8|]

Sorry, mate. Any hope for successful surgical intervention?

You could always use the extra rib to spawn another member of the human race. Oh, wait...never mind...it's been done.

I've got pinched nerves in my neck that have caused the same sensation issues, although circulation issues were never diagnosed. The nerve conduction tests done on one arm showed some issues but the specialist MD who did the test told me that almost everybody has some, just because of a 'design defect' in the human elbow that allows nerves passing through there to be damaged over time. The likely culprit is the neck vertebrae, which a nerve conduction test will not show (because it begins just downstream of there).

Wasn't that nerve conduction test fun? My favorite part was having a large needle maybe an inch+ into my bicep muscle when they applied a charge to fire the muscle, and I could feel the sharp tip of the needle tearing muscle fibers. The doc said that when he was studying the specialty that they would all get together on weekend days off just to practice on each other. I said "You know what, I'm busy this Saturday!" [:D]

A bonus rib? I'm jealous! [:D]

The x-ray nurse did make me stand with my shirt off whilst holding two jerry cans full of water though. I think her uniform was tickling her as well, she was giggling all the way through...

Bah! You got cheated. That was only the first half of the test. The second half was basically the same thing, but with needle-electrodes inserted instead of little paddle-electrodes taped on.

Go back and get your money's worth! [:'(]

Back from vacation. I can report it's 104F at Lake Powell, the fishing is good, water in the upper half is murky but the lower half is crystal clear, I can still water ski, and the lake was going up a foot (yes, 12 inches) a day, which broke the houseboat loose 2 times in seven days. I can also report the river conditions are most optimal for river rafting in the high Colorado Rockies.

Work must have missed me, there were 1200 plus emails in my box this morning.

Four more hours of this, and then I plan on going home and either 1) have a nervous breakdown, or 2) collapse in bed without letting the dog out (I hate this option, btw), or 3) all of the above.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

BTW, have you, possibly, tried the electro stimulation (i.e. TENS)?
