June 5th, 1942

India/Burma
At Akyab, a good sized xAP of ours is hit with two torpedoes from the sub O-23. The ship is sunk, thankfully it was empty.

42x Blenheim IV's hit Trincomalee at night and score 1 Port supply hit and 1 port hit.

Mohawks sweep Cox's Bazar. We have four Zeros on CAP and they bring one of the Mohawks down. After the sweep, 9 Albacores attack our transports there. xAP Huzi Maru is hit with a torpedo but should be able to make it home.

We send several Sallys at the battle outside of Chittagong but no outright kills due to the jungle. Hopefully some disruption.

In India, the 26th Indian Division finally arrives at Tezpur and kicks out our 1st SNLF paratroops. I knew we couldn't hold it forever, but hopefully it slowed them down. Since we have Comilla as well, they still can't go by rail to Chittagong yet. It should take a few more days for that division to walk to Comilla.

Our Naval guard/SNLF hodge podge of troops attacks at Cotabato and gets a 184:1 results against a couple worn out Philippine units. Both enemy units are destroyed and we will continue our march south east.

Pacific
Shortlands airfield goes to size 3.

We land on the unoccupied atoll of Niuatoputapu and capture it.

China
Between Hankow and Sinyang, we catch a Chinese corp with the remnants of our fighting near Ichang. We get a 4:1 result and the units retreats west. I will give chase and see if we can wreck a few more of his units. Thankfully this looked like a Chinese Corp that was in very good shape, as it had 12,000 troops. It lost 4700 on the retreat, so hopefully it has been hurt good.

An interesting situation near Liuchow. Our 9th Tank Regiment moved into the hex northeast of Liuchow from the hex to the west (eastward movement). Apparently a couple Chinese units came up from Liuchow at the exact same time. Now the hex shows no ownership of the sides, but I can only move back out the way I came. I'm guessing it is the same problem for the enemy. This means that he should be cut off from any supply at Kwielin as well. Hopefully our tanks can hold up against the Chinese infantry. Another regiment is on the way but it will be a couple more days until it gets here.

Five AS ships finished their conversions which were started at the begining of the war. I think I have a couple more coming over the next day or two. I'll gather them up and then decide where I want to move them.

The 2nd Army HQ arrives at Tokyo. It will load up and head to Broome to provide some leadership to the offensive campaign soon to be started there.

June 6th, 1942

India/Burma
Wellingtons do a little damage to the airbase at Akyab with night attacks, but no planes are lost.

We do another deliberate attack near Chittagong today and again get 1:1 odds (1260:785). Casualties are about even, 1000 a side, but the Allies lose 47 vehicles and one unit, the 3rd Assam Rifles Battalion, is destroyed.

In Burma, the 41st Infantry Regiment attacks at Myitkina and captures the base with a 2:1 result. The regiment will follow the 2nd Assam Rifles to Wazarup and then push them father into the jungle.

China
SB-III's up north attack our tanks on the approach to Hami. I wonder if they are trapped up there and don't have the range to move farther south?

A bit of a surprise today as the Chinese launch a full scale shock attack at Siangtan. Our fort level 3 is of course very useful as although we are outnumbered 100,000 to 40,000, we get a 1:2 result and inflict heavy casualties on the Chinese as can be seen below. I suspect unless he brings a lot more from Changsha, that Siangtan is pretty safe from assault.

Chinese shock attack[/center]

In the meeting engagement hex between Liuchow and Kweilin, the Chinese shock attack there as well. Two Chinese units against our 9th tank. We manage to repel the attack with a 1:2 result there also (57:87). We lose 2 tanks, and the enemy loses 375 men. We have another tank unit on the way, but they have units coming from Liuchow as well. Something of a race here. Unfortunately it is a forest hex so I can't bring air power to bear. On the other hand, the terrain does give us a defensive bonus.

Spidery is correct on this hex BTW - I can move NW, NE, SE and W, so presumably the Chinese units can move in most directions as well.

June 7th, 1942

India/Burma
Blenheim IVs attack Akyab at night, no damage scored.

Southwest of Akyab, O23 is found by DD Matsukaze and one depth charge hit is scored, with several other glancing blows. Hopefully enough to send the ship home for a bit.

Due to poor range limits on my part, 4 Oscars sweep Diamond harbor. They meet a pair of Mohawks and one of ours manages to get get shot down. A bit of a better show is put on over our troops near Chittagong when 16 Blenheim IVs attack and our Zeros and Oscars meet the raid and knock four of them down and disrupt the rest enough that no damage is done. Wellingtons also attack, and although we get 3 of those, they managed to knock out a pair of squads on the ground.

A pair of minesweepers finally arrive at Pago Pago and sweep 24 mines. Transports are waiting just behind them to move in and start loading the 21st to go grab Savaii.

China
The SB-IIIs continue to harass my units moving towards Hami.

To test the waters, we try a deliberate attack at Siangtan, but onyl get 1:2 (287:446) results. The enemy does have a lot of negative modifiers, so I think if I can take Hengyang, then I might be able to focus enough here to take the base.

More troops move out of Liuchow into the contested hex on the road between Liuchow and Kweilin.

Farther south, our 23rd Tank, 3rd Indpt SNLF Coy an Yokosuka 4th SNLF attack Pakhoi and capture the base. We will leave the Coy to cover the garrison requirement (mostly), but the Yokosuka unit and tank will pursue the retreating Chinese units on to the dead end at Kwangchowan, where hopefully we will regain a few points of light industry in functional condition.

Continued night raids on Akyab manage to hit a Zero on the ground.

The 2nd Yokosuka SNLF joins the regiment we had at Lashio and they both launch a deliberate attack today, scoring a 1:1 (83:46) result. Forts drop to zero and given how close that result was to 2:1 I think we may take the base on the next attack.

At Pago Pago, SS Permit gets past our E class Ishigaki and puts a working torpedo into xAK Norway Maru, sinking the ship.

At Shaoyang, another solo Chinese unit arrived yesterday and today we attack with our full stack, getting a 61:1 result and sending the unit back to Hengyang. Most of the units I need are in place so that I feel comfortable sending the stack into Hengyang now.

June 9th, 1942

India/Burma
We try again south of Chittagong and get a 1:2 result today. Very close to 1:1 with a 1335:1371 adjust AV result. The enemy loses about 120 tanks, so hopefully that helps.

We also attack at Lashio again getting a 1:1 result and casualties are 171 Allied to 6 Japan.

Pacific
At Pago Pago, SS Permit attacks one of our transports on the surface, hitting with 2 non-dud torps (plus several duds as well) and a deck gun shot. Our transport sinks with about 50 men.

On New Guinea, the Australian refugees shock attack at Terapo and get a 1:59 result.

China
At Hami, a dozen or so SB-III and I-16 & I-15 planes attack our troops. I would think that they would leave, but maybe they have no where to go. Our troops attack Hami and only get a 1:2 result today, but casualties are in our favor, and I suspect each attack used supply that the trickle of supply from Urumchi can't replace.

In a bit of a surprise, the Chinese push us back northwest of Hankow on the road to Ichang. Bad dice I suppose as they had a low supply modifier and only outnumbered us by 35,000 to 25,000 troops. The result was 650:267, or 2:1. Enough to force us back and to take a decent amount of losses (9,000 casualties). The Chinese lost about half that much, but that is still a decent amount. We'll rush some troops northeast of Hankow to prevent any Chinese from blocking that road, but I doubt they have to supply to try another push here.

In comparison, at Kweilin, 11,500 Chinese shock attack our lone tank regiment in the jungle and barely miss a 1:1 result. Instead they get 1:2 (78:79) and take 1122 casualties to none for us. It appears they have supply, but I'm guessing no anti-tank weapons.

I-174 moves into the hex at Canton, and strikes two mines, sinking the sub. Given that it is about the last target in the Pacific, I suspect we'll take a decent amount of losses when we attack the atoll.

India/Burma
Some Buffalos sweep the battle near Chittagong and take out a couple of our Zeros.

At Lashio, our deliberate attack is successful in capturing the base. The 9th Burma Rifles surrender, but the rest of the enemy units retreat into the mountains towards Paoshan. We lose 18 men, the Allies lose 1,138 plus some guns and vehicles. None of the 20 resource centers at Lashio are damaged. We'll see how long it takes before Allied bombers change that.

Dadjangas is occupied before the combat phase today. This Nav Gd unit will march northeast to meet with our main stack that is marching on Davao.

In the far south pacific we capture Vava'u. The SNLF Coy doing so is nearly spent and will need to come back to Suva to get some replacements soon.

China
While bombing some Chinese in the central plains of Chungking, a lone H81-A3 shoots down one of our Sallys.

The Chinese planes continue attacking out troops as they close on Hami.

Between Liuchow and Kweilin, the Chinese attack again. Thankfully our other tank unit arrives in the nick of time. Although still in move mode, the extra tanks are enough to hang on another day with a 1:1 result. The Chinese troops are already out of supply, so hopefully we will be able to fend them off. We suffer no casaulties to the Chinese 932 and 5 guns.

India/Burma
Perhaps expecting only my Paratroops, the 75th Indian Brigade crosses the river from Dacca and shock attacks our troops at Comilla. I had flown in the 21st Ind Mixed Brigade to support the 1st Raiders and that worked so far. The attack gets 1:3 against our level 1 forts (which don't drop). However I don't have the supply to risk a counter attack. The goal here is to hold the base to prevent any reinforcement of Chittagong via rail.

The 28th Division unloads at Broome with light casualties. No air attacks or enemy ships interfere so far, so that is good.

Philippines
Our stack attacks at Digos today and the 2nd/101st PA Battalion that was present surrenders rather than retreating. The result was 177:1. Onward to Davao.

China
The airplanes at Hami continue to attack our troops, but it is for not as we capture the base with a 3:1 (92:29) result. Lots of airplanes are apparently captured. 2,300 Chinese casualties plus the intel screen says 23x SB-III, 19x I-16-III and 9 I-15-III are captured. Good day for air VPs - 54 planes lost for Allies, and 5 for Japan.

The other big attack of the day is at Hengyang where we get a 3:1 (302:76) result against fort level 3. Forts drop to 2 so I am hopeful we can take this base on the next attack. Casualties are about 7 to 1 in our favor.

The Chinese attack between Kweilin and Liuchow again, but with our newly arrived tanks in the proper combat mode today, they Chinese only get 1:5. We do have some tanks disabled though, so we probably won't last here forever.

I-169 take a shot at AVD Mackinac near Pearl Harbor, but misses.

India/Burma
Lots of night strikes by Wellingtons, Hudsons and Bleheims come in against Akyab. We lose some planes on the ground - 2 Oscars and 3 Anns to be specific, but the airfield damage is negligible. I'll put some Oscars on night CAP tomorrow since I have enough here to still provide daytime CAP as well.

We have a couple ships unloading supplies at Cox's Bazar and 14x Albacore's attack in two waves. Two of our ships are sunk and a third damaged. I think about 1000-2000 supplies were lost in the sunk ships. Never a good thing for Japan.

In the night, we continue to unload troops at Broome. Additionally, an enemy patrol boat, PG Isabel, comes by to investigate, but our old friends CL Natori and company find Isabel and sink the surprised ship. Isabel only gets a couple shots off before she is sunk at about 10,000 yards. Our ships take no hits.

Once the sun comes up, destroyer Thanet comes by as well. Although not surprised, we do manage to cross the T agaisnt the enemy ship. We again take no hits and Thanet disengages in rough shape, likely sinking later.

We unload parts of the 21st Division at Savaii today against light opposition, one squad is lost, although 60 are disabled.

South of Suva and Pago Pago the 4th SNLF Coy captures Late Island.

China
In support of the ground assault at Hengyang, we send everything we can at the enemy from the air taking out several hundred enemy troops. The attack succeeds easily with a 13:1 result. We lose 43 men, the Chinese lose 5,800. The shattered Chinese units retreat southwest across the river. We have some troops on the way to that hex so we should be able to bounce them back across the river in such a way that they will be west of Hengyang. Industry was only lightly damaged so we will get some valuable supply production to add to what is already being produced at Shaoyang and Siantang. More importantly, there is now only one open route into Changsha and that is the trail down from the northwest.

Our Nells and Anns hit the enemy troops at Comilla just to make sure they aren't resting too easily. 71 enemy troops are disabled.

All of our Sallys in the area attack Chittagong in support of today's deliberate attack. The forest protect the enemy, but the attack was made anyway in the hope of adding some disruption to their troops.

The attack near Chittagong is finally decisive. We get a 2:1 result and several enemy units (5) retreat. Additionally one unit is destroyed. This leave three units present that we should be able to push out now that there are less enemy troops present.

As we finish up our unloading at Broome, yet another enemy surface ship tests the defenses. Today it is DD Pillsbury. 0% moonlight sees Natori and company get as close at 5,000 yards, but neither side scores any hits before the ships part ways.

In the daylight hours, Natori tracks down Pillsbury again though and this time plenty of shells land on the enemy destroyer while we again take no hits. The enemy ship is sunk.

After that battle, Natori heads to Timor to rearm, and while en route stumbles on a couple undefended xAK's, but apparently the TF commander decides it isn't worth chasing them and the TF's go there separate ways.

On the continent, we launch our assault at Broome and easily capture the base with a 37:1 result. The Broome RAN Base Force is destroyed and the road is open to Derby. One SOC-1 Seagull is captured.

As we fight at Savaii, apparently a few troops go next door to secure Upolu as it is occupied today.

The assault on Savaii goes well and the base is captured from the Samoa Detachment. A nice prize is the 10x PBY-5 Catalinas we capture on the ground.

We are now showing more assault value at Liuchow than the enemy. We might be able to capture this base (again) soon.

June 14th, 1942

India/Burma
Apparently yesterday's battle wasn't as decisive as I though. We attack near Chittagong and only get a 1:1 result. Mainly due to a shortage of supply. We'll try again as soon as supply level are back up where they should be. Can't wait to get past this hex!

Pacific
Dinah's at Horn Island spot some AM's and PT boats at Cooktown and manage to score a hit on an AM.

Bettys from Tabiteau attack a pair of destroyers at Canton Island. 13 P-39D are on CAP but we manage to slide right by them. No hits on the planes, but I'll reel in the Bettys until we have neutralized the airfields at Canton with either carrier sweeps or battleship shells.

With Savaii and Pago Pago secure, the next few days will involved getting the 8th and 21st divisions loaded up to attack Canton Island. I'll try to get a naval guard unit on my two LSD's as well so at least part of the invasion is not heavily disrupted by the landing. I don't have much faith in our AKs and these two divisions are tired, but the clock is ticking. To try and help, I've got most of my battleships headed to Canton and all the carriers are converging there as well. The fireworks should start near the end of June. Hopefully was can do enough damage from the sea and air that our land units will be able to take the place. If we can take Canton, it will be the last notable place we attack in the Pacific, and I'll start setting up for defense and counterattack opportunities.

China
Plenty of air attacks both at our armor river crossing in the Chungking valley, as well as west of Changsha where we take advantage of clear terrain to inflict damage on the Chinese.

Recon has been showing a single unit across the river (see the map below, south east of Chengtu battle) so our tanks were a bit surprised to find two units and one of them actually had some assault value (the other was showing zero). In any case, our tanks only get 1:7 on the shock attack but thankfully take no casualties while inflicting 172. Now we will retreat back across the river and try to get back to the safety of the jungle while our air slows down our pursuers. If we get forced to retreat, we will lose tanks. Should be an interesting few turns coming up.

Up north, we manage to catch up to the enemy for a change and get to force them to retreat again with a 3:1 result. One unit actually doesn't retreat which means I can take advantage of my armor's speed and put them on reserve/pursuit.

Finally the Chinese attack at Chengtu but we hold pretty well. They have 32,000 troops, we have 18,000 but light urban, forts and better troops are on our side. The Chinese get 1:3 odds, no fort drop and lose 4,150 men to our own 1,335. Thankfully only 4 squads and 1 gun are destroyed, so if they give us a break some of those disabled will recover before the next attack. These Chinese have supplies, probably because of the proximity of Chungking.

Fusan's port goes to size 8. Even more ships can be 'ported' here now as they move resources over the channel. From what I understand, that increases the draw of everything to Fusan. Already I've seen some improvement as there have been a couple times in the last few weeks that Port Arthur has dropped about 200-300k of resources that move to Fusan.

Our H6K4 factory auto-upgrades to H6k5. We won't build any though. I'll manual change this factory over to H8K1 next month when they become available.

India/Burma
Some Wellys and Hudsons attack Cox's Bazar port at night, but we don't have anything there, and the port isn't damaged.

On the plus side, in Burma we attack at Warazup and send the 2nd Assam Rigles into the jungle as we capture the base. This Regiment will now head back to Lashio and then towards Paoshan.

DEI/N Australia
In the northern part of Celebes, we occupy the dot base of Togian-eilanden with a SNLF Coy.

A couple waves of B-17E's attack Broome. I don't have any AV support yet, but had sent in our 8 Tojo's anyway. 11 then 4 B-17's face 5 then 2 Tojos. Damage to the airfield is pretty light, and we damage a B-17E, but lose a Tojo to ops. Aviation support, AA guns and Nicks are all on the way, so hopefully we'll be able to put up some defense soon.

Philippines
Our stack attacks at Davao today and captures the base with a 41:1 result. The Two small units present there retreat northeast into the mountain base. Our troops will follow the road around to the west and attack the mountain base first before moving on to Cagayan. PT-31, PT-32 and PT-33 were all scuttled to prevent capture.

China
Various air attacks continue. Including the attacks on the units that look to be chasing my armor. The tanks make it back across the river thanks to the 60 mile move rate, but now on the trails it might be a little trickier to outrun the Chinese. Hopefully our air attacks keep them out of move mode so we can get away.

You may recall we have a ton of artillery in Siangtan to fend off the 120,000 Chinese that are beseiging us. I don't bombard everyday due to supply, but today's bombardment did well, taking out almost 600 Chinese and 8 of their guns.

South of Hengyang we cross the river and shock attack the Chinese that had retreated a couple days ago. The Ankei SNLF was also there from yesterday having arrived from the east. The attack goes well with a 13:1 result and the Chinese lose another 3,200 troops to our 38. One unit is destroyed, the rest retreat back to the northwest as expected. I have a unit moving west from Shoayang to cut off any attempts by the Chinese to run northwest to Chihkiang.

The out of supply Chinese at Tienshui try and attack. 128,000 Chinese versus 39,000 Japanese results in a 1:11 result. About 7,000 Chinese casualties versus 2,200 Japanese, although far more Chinese are destroyed than ours.

They also try again at Chengtu, today getting another 1:3 result. They lose 1,900 troops to our 700, and no fort drop.

And lastly, up north our attack on the solo unit near Hami is successful with a 14:1 result, and our two tank unit pursue into the next hex. They will try an attack tomorrow.

Submarines
I-26 fires a couple torpedoes at DD Balch near Pearl Harbor but misses. I-26 also evades the ASW counterattack.

Other
I noticed an AKE sitting at Babeldaob had an upgrade so that started in place. It is a short one, just to add some AA guns.

Blenheims, Wellingtons and Hudsons all attack Cox's Bazar in the daylight today and we have a few Oscars on CAP. We manage to take down 3 Blenheims, and the rest manage to score a single Port Fuel hit.

Northeast of Lashio, we chase the British into China as we attack and capture the base of Bhamo. One of the enemy units are destroyed and the other 5 retreat towards Paoshan.

16 B-17's hit Broome today and one Tojo rises to meet them. One B-17 damaged, and the Tojo makes it home. Damag to the airfield is pretty light again. We take no casualties and the enemy loses 1,065 men.

A Dinah hits another PT boat on the eastern coast of Australia.

China
Along with some air support we launch a deliberate attack at Liuchow today and manage to retake the base! The result was 3:1 against level 1 forts and this sends 9 Chinese units retreating southwest which puts them out of the fight in the Kweilin-Liuchow-Kweiyang theater. We'll move some smaller units down there to ensure those Chinese don't get in a place to block our supply flows. Summary -

Victory at Liuchow... for now[/center]

Our tanks attack the retreating Chinese north of Hami, but it isn't quite enough as we only get a 1:2 result. 300 Chinese men are taken out though, most destroyed, and no tanks lost or disabled so that is nice.

The Chinese do not attack at Chengtu today, allowing us to recover some squads.

Submarines
I-25 finds an xAKL and attacks it on the surface near Pearl Harbor. 16 shell hits are enough to put the little transport under.

I-1 fires at a destroyer near Palmyra but misses. There is also a CM with the DD's so I suspect mines for either Palmyra or Canton Island.

Other
We lose a VP point at Pakhoi since we only have 15 out of 20 garrison points covered. One of these days I'll fix that, but assault points are at a premium in China.

Quiet day.

18x B-17Es attack our troops that are on the move from Broome. We lose about 240 squads, mostly disabled, although we lose 2 destroyed tanks.

China
One of the units north of Hami is still remaining when our tanks attack and they easily send it running with a 12:1 result. No tanks lost, 144 enemy casualties.

We do a bombardment at Siangtan today, this one is even better than the previous one with 800 enemy casualties, including 42 enemy squads destroyed.

Other
Rabaul expands port to size 6. This should help with keeping the fleet armed up.

June 18th, 1942

India/Burma
Manadalay airfields hit size 3. Should be a couple more weeks until size 4 which will help bring the IJA bombers into the fray in India much more than they currently are.

Oscars bring down some Albacores[/center]

Albacores attack at Cox's Bazar, but our Oscar's do a better job with them today. Some get through and hit and sink another xAK. However, none of the Albacore's make it home. 14x were shown attacking, and the intel screen says 18 were shot down.

More importantly, we attack again near Chittagong and today get 5:1 results, forcing the last 3 enemy units to retreat to Chittagong. Our stack will roll into the bases ASAP, and then wait for one of the 56th/ elements to move into the jungle to fully surround the base. To the northeast of Chittagong, a SNLF para unit has been sitting for a while waiting to move southwest to open the hex side. Once all hexsides are red, then we will attack and hopefully take a big chunk of commonwealth LCU's out of the fight for a while.

16x B-17s hit our advancing troops each of Broome. One Tojo on CAP damages one of the B-17s.

Pacific
I-2 fires at DD Monaghan but misses.

China
Our freed up troops from the capture of Liuchow arrive in the hex to the northeast of Liuchow just in time, as the Chinese shock attack here today. The results are 1:6 and the Chinese lose 3,400 men to our 350. I expect they will retreat back to Kweilin now and if so, we will send most of these troops up the road towards Kweiyang.

Other
A couple PBs on convoy duty between Saigon and north Borneo collide causing some damage to each other. They will park in Saigon for a few days to get fixed up. Speaking of Saigon, the airfield and port both reach size 6 today.

June 19th, 1942

India/Burma
We try some night bombing of Chittagong with Nells and Sallys and get two points of runway damage and a damaged P-40E in exchange for losing a Sally and two Nells.

Blenheims attack Comilla and disable out a squad of infantry.

DEI/N Australia
Near Broome, we have a decent CAP in the area of our troops, but they only lightly engage the B-17s. We damage 1 B-17E, but at least casualties are light on the 28th Division.

China
Our two tank units attack the retreating Chinese in the far north on the road to Urumchi. We only get 1:1 but do 310 casualties versus none for our tanks. Our infantry is in the hex now, but I suspect the Chinese units will exit the hex tomorrow.

The Chinese do a deliberate attack at Chengtu and get 1:4 results and are actually showing a negative supply modifier. We lose 3 destroyed squads and 47 disabled to their 147 destroyed and 180 disabled squads. They of course have lots more to throw at me, so hopefully our units will recover fast.

Aircraft A6M8 Zero advances R&D to 6/45

Niigata port goes to size 7. I use this as a main unloading place for stuff from Shikuka and some from Hokakido so this increase is a good one.

40th Ku T-2 is withdrawn and DD Akizuki arrives. Also an air HQ arrives at Saigon, the 3rd Air Army.
