The Diplomacy "Alliance name" text entry box pop-up

Post by Keston »

This must be relatively new - I've had this grey box pop-up when in diplomatic interactions. What I don't know is what I did to trigger it and what is it for?

Maybe a way to help group and sort out "us" vs "them" alignments on a galactic scale?

Get a mutual defence pact with someone, then double click on them in diplomacy put your alliance name in and apply, you'll get the title under your empire and theirs in the left pane, like the freedom alliance in ancient galaxy theme. Not sure if it has any effect beyond cosmetic though.

Oddly enough you still get the prompt even if you are not in a mutual defense pact with anyone.

Another thing about the Alliance pop-up box:

Using the in game editor, you can set an alliance to be 'locked' between 2 empires, effectively making it an unbreakable alliance, no matter how much the two empires end up hating each other.

Doing this between multiple empires, will result in a large alliance of empires that can make a game very challenging. [;)]

Is there a way to do this with the various configuration files like race or policy files...
I do set my biases and that helps... but I still get some breakups.

True but every time I tried to apply a name before I had a mutual defence pact the name didn't stick.
edit: seems it does when I try now, maybe I was clicking in the wrong place earlier.

Hmm, didn't know this feature was even there, but it seems bugged. I enter alliance names, but then they get assigned to unrelated races.

Edit: Hmm, nevermind, guess I was misunderstanding what part of the empire name I was supposed to click on.

No, this can only be done with the in game editor. I generally use this feature at game start to set up some really strong alliances that if attacked get you a response from 2-3 others if you declare war on them.

It happens if you right mouse click in the diplomacy screen by accident. I just ignore it.
