I'm hoping you'll get back to me. But I just thought I'd report a problem I encountered when I tried switching to the Picard Era theme in Distant Worlds Universe.

The following error message pops up and then the game exits.

"could not load required image. C:\Program Files (x86)\SlitherineLtd\Distant Worlds Universe\images\units\races\race_22.png"

The PC I'm running is a Windows 7 64 bit
APU: AMD A8-5600K 3.6 GHz
8 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti

I downloaded the latest version on the forum.

Hello psycicmind and welcome to the forums!

The Picard Era mod is not fully compatible with Universe at this time. We are working
steadfastly to complete Igard's mod so it is compatible for Universe and can be posted.
We will be putting up a new thread soon as it's completed and ready for release. We plan
to also use the thread for updating as we may add more races and shipsets.

Anything yet? Any update? I would really like to play DW:U with a TNG mod...

Hello imdahman, and thanks for asking!

Our Star Trek mod team are awaiting one additional upcoming update from Elliot that will
greatly enhance what we are doing with the Trek mods. Igard's team should have at least the
Picard Era and Kirk era mods out this month. The Archer and Spock mods shortly after if Igard
approves the work we've done. In addition, we have yet to decide the best place for mod access
as the mods are very large in size. The Picard Era mod has 520+ characters alone.

Please be patient just a bit more! We hope to follow the success of Haree78's trailblazing with his Extended mod. Something all Trekkie's will be proud of and consider a 'must' to have. We have a
very good team working on it and we hope to have it out to everyone soon.

Just dropping a line showing my support for this mod. Since most actual Trek games have been duds, Trek conversion mods are the way to go and I look forward to seeing it. Wow, 520+ characters *whistles appreciatively*

Thanks for the support and kind comment Hannable. It has been a lot of work. I'm a Trekkie and have been
into space games since StarFlight (Ooops...declaring age!). I met Igard over two years ago online when he
was modeling Klingon Warbirds (See site here: http://www.theromulancargobay.webspace.virginmedia.com/Revell%20stormbird.html ) and we started up a rapport. After DW came out he decided to begin creating a Star Trek mod for it based upon the Picard Era. I offered my assistance since I was a test team member and he accepted and we've been friends since. It was a lot of work back then because DW wasn't as modable as it is today. Furthermore, as we progressed (along with the help of Woodman and others), we had to redo many files each time a new version of DW came out (ROTS ~ LEGENDS ~ SHADOWS). Now with Universe, we have the capabilities we didn't have back then. Igard had made a separate Total Conversion package which when added to the mod basically enhanced the immersion factor. Unfortunately though, you had to overwrite many of the 'vanilla' files for it to work. Then we had to also review 'everything' each time a new patch came out. I also had to revise ALL the character files (400 back then) because we had no randomization of the statistics (Skills & Traits). I made it a point to be as close to canon as possible (which is what Igard desired) with each character. So that, for instance, Scientist Noonian Soong has the Ultra Genius trait, and Officer Liz Shelby is a bit reckless and Ambassador Spock is Logical and very diplomatic.

So in closing Hannable, we are almost there. Thanks to the addition of some fantastic forum members who
are assisting us (and yes, Gyrospeck did come aboard), with a bit more patience, expect to be "beamed up" by the immersion when things are completed. We're hoping to have 5 total mods when completed. The
Picard Era, The Kirk Era, The Archer Era, The Spock Era, and for the 'somewhat non-canon' folks I'm sure
Gyrospeck will enhance and re-release his Star Trek Universe mod. We hope to begin releasing very soon!

Waiting to try the MOD. Really interested to play this game in the style of Star Trek... I will be waiting for the mod to be compatible with the universe expansion.
Wow, I don't believe!

Hello Imperius;

Yes, but not with the Version 1.0 release. My plan is to have at least three maps
with the Version 2.0 release. The Alpha, Beta and Delta Quadrants. We will only
have two maps with the first release. One of which will have the Sol System as we
know it involved.

With Version 2.0, it is currently my hope to have at initially at least two playable
scenarios. One that can be activated if certain 'events' in the game triggers it, and
one that will add a number of 'additional' small empires if the player so chooses. I
have only recently come up with this idea, so I have yet to discuss it with the Trek
mods team. But stay tuned, and thanks for your interest!

[s]DO you have an idea as to when you plan to Release 1.0? obviously no hard/specific dates (we all know the trouble those bring) unless you do have one and are on track for it.[/s]

oops, just saw your Reply to imdahman's post on the previous page... really hope nothing bad pops up to delay it, be great to get it sometime this month... i wish there was a way to proper do all 3 Era's in 1... do you think you could get the game to switch out default ship Images at specific points in the tech tree to sorta "upgrade" the era? along with a small story pop up message thing upon a Era advancement... or is this not possible with DW:U?

I am eager to play DW:U but I've been using your guys mod for years and going back to Vanilla DW is not as enjoyable of a experience.... i been spoiled by your guys hard work lol... IMO the games much better with your Trek Theme and Mods.

I Eagerly await your release so i can play DW again, and give the guys my thanks for all their hard work on this project along with your and others long time commitment to it.

Thank you for your support and very kind words Carl4243! [&o]

We're getting closer and are in beta testing now. However, there is one other (MAJOR to us) update
we need to have done before release. Elliot is currently on a well deserved vacation, but we should
have the needed update shortly after his return. So our version 1.0 release won't happen until a bit
of time after update 1.9.5.6 occurs.

Concerning your other question, no, we unfortunately cannot (through the game at least) 'switch out'
specific shipsets during the game. There are workarounds that you can used to change the ship images
during the game manually though. I'll try to remember to address that in the README1st file for the
theme at release (please remind me if I forget...getting old and senile! [&:]).

There also might be a way to possible do it via an event set through the Game Editor. I'll inquire
about that when Elliot returns. He listens intently to some of us 'serious Trekkies' on his dev team
(a LARGE shipment of Vintage Romulan Ale via Igard always helps as well if DATA doesn't intercept it).

Serious Trekkies... really? [:'(]
He will not listen to us Jedi...

Data? Do you need a fleet and a few able bodied Jedi to help do a couple of raids?

I am not sure what this idiom means but I will presume you are not challenging a Jedi to do his worst on pilfering ale....

I combined a bunch of system names files ... and I started off at the ... wait for it, wait for it ...

The Tribble Homeworld!

I could almost imagine myself playing as the mighty Tribble empire.

Too bad you can't replace a space creature with a giant tribble.
