totally confused

Post by steverodgers801 »

why is it a Japanese sub can sit in NDeni harbor and not hit any of my mines or be attacked by my ASW ships. I place a sub in one of his harbors with ships in it and it does nothing

Lots of reasons, some of which were posted in your previous thread on mines. Is your ASW ship on patrol or just sitting in the harbor, Cpt's rating, crew training/skills, level of detection, type of targets and what they are doing, etc... and the game engine always (like real life) has a random component to it...so virtually nothing is ever guaranteed, just like in real operations.

For your ASW. Be sure it's on "Patrol" vs. docked or just sitting there. Check your Cpt's rating, most of the ASW ships start out the game with Lt Fumblebutt in command. An aircraft on ASW or Naval Patrol that includes the harbor in question generally will significantly increase detection levels of enemy subs. Increase the odds in your favor!

Happy gaming. Kevin

I have it set on patrol, yet the game decides to let my asw captain sit on his rear and watch 5 ships be sunk in wake harbor over a weeks time because he cant figure out a sub is attacking. Youd think hed at least start dropping charges at random, like a real life commander would. When I put a sub in harbor at patrol he also just sits and watches all the ships go by.

My anecdotal experience w/ subTFs seems to indicate that they have a better chance to find & shoot at the enemy if they are on a 2- or 3-hex patrol zone, instead of a 1-hex PZ or 'remain on station' order. IMO, TFs that expend movement have a better chance to detect a target.

Try setting your ASWTF to a 2-hex PZ, 2nd hex is 1 hex distant from the harbor, days on station = 0, days on station in the harbor = 1, set to refuel.
