I can't watch Netherlands vs Costa Rica live here [:(]

Hoping for an upset.

Realistically, I think their best chance are penalties but if you park the bus on holland they will find a way...

Good keeper swap by The Netherlands. And have to say that seen the match overall, they deserved the win they got.

So for the semi-final we have a repeat of the 2002 World Cup Final and a repeat of the 1978 World Cup Final.

Brazil vs Germany

Argentina vs Holland

The South Americans won both encounters (although the Dutch extracted some measure of revenge 20-years later in a Quarter-Final tie in France).

Who do people want and who do they think will actually make it to the final?

I'll kick-off:

First Semi.

I want Brazil for the same reason I've wanted them all tournament (even though ordinarily I would have wanted Chile or Colombia). They are at home and I think its good for the tournament that they reach the final.

I think it will be Germany. Brazil will be without their two best players - and I agree with Mourinho, the loss of Thiago Silva is probably more of a worry than Neymar. The law of averages says that Germany will win the tournament soon. Maybe this is the year....

Second Semi

This is weird. In every other year I would want Holland. a) to right the wrongs of two lost finals in the 70's and b) because I love the Dutch, the Orange kit, the Lion, the national anthem, everything. Trouble is, I cannot stand Robben, have no time for van Persie and van Gaal and so, for the first time, have not cared whether the Dutch lose. But I definitely do not want Argentina - the stunt with the Falklands before the tournament was just crass. So, in summary, not much of a choice!! Probably want the Dutch on balance.

I think it will be the Dutch to win. The Argentines have failed to convince and in van Gaal I think Holland have a manager who seems to know what he is doing and is unafraid to make big, bold decisions. The Dutch have a sensible amount of time to get over the marathon match with Costa Rica too so that should not be a factor.

So a Germany vs Holland final. But this sounds wrong!! The tournament is in Brazil - no European team has won in South America.... Oh hell, I don't know [X(][X(]

Ok then.

My head says Germany will defeat Brazil (Neymar out) and my heart says "I don't care at all who makes it" [:D]

As for case B my my head says Argentina will prevail and my heart says Holland.

1. Brazil vs Germany

2. Argentina vs Holland

Who do people want and who do they think will actually make it to the final?

Want;
1. Germany
2. Holland

Believe;
1. Germany (I do not think Brazil has enough in the team as a whole to win this)
2. Argentina (It only takes one slip up, and Messi will hurt Holland. On the other side, if Robben continues to work as he did against Costa Rica, it can go any way. But Holland really needs Robben and RVP to shine if they are to win).

So, Germany vs Argentina in the final most likely imo, and I think Germany will take that one.

He didn't have to pretend to hard - both his parents were English.

But surely you are exaggerating somewhat re best movie line ever? What about:

Paul Gleason in Trading Places:

Beaks: %^&* Off

Or

Miguel Ferrer in Hot Shots Part Deux

Harbinger: War...it's fantastic!

Or

Robert Stack in Airplane

Are you going to turn the lights on Chief?

Kramer: No, that's just what they're expecting us to do

Or

Gene Hackman in Crimson Tide

Ramsey: You do qualify your remarks. If someone asked me if we should bomb Japan, a simple "Yes." By all means sir, drop that %^&*er, twice!

There are one or two that stick in my mind, mostly due to similar personal experience...

The RAF ground crew flight sgt watching Simon land his Spitfire when he first arrives on the sqiuadron,

"Bumps-a-daisy, it's enough to make you weep."

Followed by "undercarriage lever a bit sticky was it Sir?"

Having been on the receiving and of some dodgy landings (and watched the things pilots do to Spitfires) as well as their habit of either breaking everything or claiming it's broken these one make me smile every time I watch the film.

Want:

Brazil vs Argentina

Do not want:

Anything else [:D]

What will happen:

Germany and Holland in a boring final in which Klose scores a boring goal to crush Ronaldo's record and gives Germany their first world cup [;)].
