RE: Really OT : World Cup 2014
I'd hate to see Argentina advance today as anybody lifting the Cup would be better than Argentina. See what happens when you live in Brazil?

I never thought that doing an AAR would be so time consuming and difficult.

RE: Really OT : World Cup 2014
For those of us who have grown up with Brazil being the exponents of the "beautiful game", the tournament has been something of a shock.
Lots of songs at English football grounds along the lines of "its just like watching Brazil". From now on, it will have a whole new meaning

Ouch, Tocaff. I know Argentina ain't the best, and all of us down here dislike her, but Jeez Louize. They are the last, best hope for a South American World Cup.ORIGINAL: tocaff

BTW, I don't really hate them. My sweetie is an Argentine from San Carlos de Bariloche. Think (hope) we are going beyond the sweetie stage.

Unwatchable drivel for the most part that
Going to be some very motivated Argentinian players on Sunday night. Winning the world cup in Brazil would top everything they have ever done

Si, perhaps. Both parties were to scared to give something away...

Not the best lineup choice for the penalties, eh? Robben up first I'd say, but the Argentine goalie did really well.
Too bad neither team decided to free it up during the game.

So Brazil must beat the Orange to regain a small shred of their confidence.
I believe Germany is poised to be the first European team to lift the cup in South America. This could be a repeat of the match 4 years ago even though both teams are better than then.

This may be a tough question to answer:
Would Brazil rather see a European side win the World Cup on South American soil for the first time, or see their archrival Argentina win in Brazil to preserve the streak? Neither option would be good to me from a Brazilian perspective.
I don't see that as a tough one. Brazil are out, they are hurting - and boy are they hurting - but as to who wins? Who cares? The country is shell-shocked and in mourning. Ah, except one thing - the nightmare scenario. Their fierce rivals Argentina winning on Brazilian soil would be a knife to the heart.
The rivalry with your neighbours is the biggest in football, whether it's country - Scotland vs England, inter city - Liverpool vs Manchester or local derby -Tottenham vs Arsenal - these are the big ones. To paraphrase Winston Churchill, as a Spurs fan, if Arsenal were playing Bealzebub's XI, quite frankly, I would be rooting for the devil [;)]
So for Brazil, Argentina winning a 3rd world crown in the Maracana would be er.... highly unpleasant.....
Understood. Kind of like the T-shirts we have in American football. "My favorite team is the Texas Longhorns and whoever is playing the University of Oklahoma."
Just curious.
PS - Argentina - Netherlands was not really a joy to watch, eh? My only comment is that several of the non-Messi Argentine players did quite well tonight on defense and in the midfield. Germany should win the final, but should and will are two different words.

If the dutch got through it wouldn't have been a proxy match for all 4 sides, as the fiercest rivals (fan-base wise) of the Germans are the Dutch. Lots of fights between their hooligans in the 80s and 90s. I'm guessing the Dutch will now be rooting for Argentina.
RE: Really OT : World Cup 2014
I hope for a good match crowned by our (german) victory on sunday! I'd really love to see our golden generation (Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Klose..) to finally see the title. As long as they dont get too relaxed due to a high win, and accept a hefty fight, they should be able to do it, too
RE: Really OT : World Cup 2014
Yes, it will be a very good game. Both are titans and they will surely fight to the very end of game.[&o][:D]
RE: Really OT : World Cup 2014
You have no idea at how Brazilians are when it comes to supporting their country or club teams. They literally go to war with one another on a regular basis. Sometimes they don't even need a game for the attacks to happen. Think European 80s and 90s today, but magnified.

I can imagine based on what I saw on Brazil's beer at venues law previous to the worldcup , check out this video from that lovely chap Fifa chap Valcke, trying very hard not to sound arrogant http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xnuqrj ... iums_sport

This is one of the most popular TV shows of Argentina, making fun or better to say insulting Brazil for its defeat
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7pqG_RmptM
There is not a lot of love between the 2 countries. at least in terms of soccer
This is really a disaster for Brazil; its 2 main rivals "defiling" their holy temple of Maracana. they won't remember this world cup fondly

RE: Really OT : World Cup 2014
Brazilians still hurt from the defeat by Uruguay in 1950. It`ll be a long time before they screw up the courage to host another Cup as this is the second and they didn`t win either.
