To be fair, neither Brazil nor Argentina nor Germany (until yesterday) were convincing in this WC [;)]

Some good might come from this... After this humiliating trashing Brazil might drop this miserable Football (aka win at all cost) and go back to their "jogo bonito" (=beautiful game). This beautiful game won them WCs and the admiration of basically everyone.

A good football game depends on there being two teams on the field at once. Yesterday, there was only one team on the field. It was a very bad game.

I personally don't agree with more goals=more entertaining. It dilutes the difficulty of scoring one of them, takes away the beauty of the goal. Of 99 problems Football Soccer has, scoring pace ain't one of them. To each his own I guess.
Ya, take the goals off and let the players run around the field kicking a ball while holding streaming ribbons and do occasional flops. What a beautiful game that would be.[:D]

There's only a problem with your theory. A game lasts 90 minutes. Scoring a goal? Humm, let's say 2 seconds is all you need? 2 goals = 4 seconds? 4 goals = 8 seconds? In other words, you don't need to watch the game in the first place, simply watch the highlights of the match. And that might be even too long [:D]

If you can't watch a game with few goals, then this sport is not for you. As simple as that.

Scarcity of goals is something that makes Soccer more exciting. You know that break away or failed chance really meant something. It's a bit like hockey in that regard, but even more so. One thing I hate about american football (besides the massive amount of commercials) is the skewing of rules towards offense. The NBA went the same way after the 90s too.

I could be happy with a few goals as you mentioned. 3 or 4 for me . I could watch that.

0-0 1-0 1-1. That's harder to watch. And for me those low scoring games means one or both teams are parking the bus. Or they are both poor offensive teams.

There is beauty and technique in a game with a many goals? right? It seems like some posting here were suggesting beauty of the game is in the low scores(because that shows off the difficulty of scoring)
I'll disagree with that. Again its the mentality is defensive playing more beautiful or offensive playing. And here we can disagree. But this is your sport. I doubt that I will be a follower of it.

No. It was half decent game since at least one team turned up for it. Consider the Netherlands v Argentina semi-final when neither term turned up for the game. Now, that, is a very bad game. And the bloody thing hasn't yet finished.

Dear Lord, it wasn't even an exciting penalty shootout.

We'll have to disagree on the GER-BRA game, but the ARG-NED game was awful.

Only saw the first half, I guess I luckied out lol

Germany - Argentina... hmmmm

Argentina does not bring anything to the field but Messi and half-decent midfield. Germany is nothing out of the extraordinary skill-wise either they just do the most basic things right and precise, what a team should be doing in the first place. The extraordinary thing they do have is a mentality of never giving up until the end not even if they are winning 5-0 or losing 5-0.

If Argentina wins this, it will be a source of mockery for Brazil for ever until the Earth gets destroyed by the sun since they are bitter enemies in football, the most famous rivalry in latinamerica and one of the principal rivalries in the world. It will be unreal.

If Germany wins, it ends the maxim of "Europe for Europeans, Americas for Americans" regarding World Cup championships.

Not so evident. What Germany will show up? The one that trashed Brazil or... the one that struggled with minor sides?

Will the Argentinians do what they did yesterday (along with Holland): refusing to attack? MOTM = Mascherano, a destructive midfielder. This says it all.

I agree that soccer would be much more popular in the US with some rules adjustments that made 0-0 / 1-0 / 1-1 games less likely. It's the long nearly scoreless games without even that many attempts on goal that earn it the most flak as a sport here.

If they extended the goal posts up like in US football they could have two tier scoring. Put it above the net between the posts and score one point or put it in the net past the goal keeper and score 5 points. As it is now, soccer lets one play a computer game for two hours with slight chance of interruption to see scoring action. With DVR you stop the TV and rewind the 3 seconds of scoring play and go back to your game.

You might have an entertaining match which ends in 0 - 0 [8D] Yes, it is possible, in my opinion.

The problem is "entertaining" is subjective. Some people like offensive football (like me) and other prefer defensive football.

So you can have a match with two teams that try to win their match. These are -to me- the best matches. It's like the flow of a river. But despite these many non-stop attacks, maybe the strikers miss all their chances or the goalkeepers stop everything they throw at them.

So is this match boring (0-0)? Are you sure? [;)]

The match we saw yesterday was boring not because of the 0 - 0 but because both teams literally refused to attack. It's called "objective? Do not let the opponent play (aka elaborate, create), Do NOT lose". Just en passant this has always been Mourinho's proposition [:D]

These are the two extremes (one is positive and the other is negative). In the middle you could have one team that tries to win the match and the other that only thinks about defending. These ones can be very entertaining too IMO.

But make no mistake, the overwhelming majority of football fans hate matches like the one we were served yesterday. It's pure negativity. But again, this has nothing to do with 0-0 or 1-0. You are mixing two different things.

I believe Germany has finally found the tactical system that suits well with our players. (In fact its just a return to the proven system with Khedira & Schweinsteiger playing in the central midfield and one single striker (Klose) ).
Except for injuries I guess there will be no personal changes.

After watching Arg - Ned, I believe it is save to say, that for the sake of the international football development, Germany has to win this WC tournament. [X(]

What's with the complaint about the match for 3rd and forth place. The coach (Luis Van Gaal) complained to FIFA for having this match. don't understand the reasoning behind it. Anyone understand the complaint.
