What's happened to the Panzer Command series?

Panzer Command: Ostfront is the latest in a new series of 3D turn-based tactical wargames which include single battles, multi-battle operations and full war campaigns with realistic units, tactics and terrain and an informative and practical interface. Including a full Map Editor, 60+ Scenarios, 10 Campaigns and a very long list of improvements, this is the ultimate Panzer Command release for the Eastern Front!

I agree with the content being way beyond what most other games have to offer.

See, look we have an artist, wont be too long and a C# programmer will be on the way.[;)]

Let us hope. We need a Hero...nothing but a hero.....ladahdahdahdahdah. (Bonnie Tyler? who?) Keeps ringing in my head.

Glad Bairdlander reminded me to post something. [:'(] I think this game would really go over the top if it was put on Steam. Beat Battlefront to the punch. Though they say they'll not use steam as a source of advertisement. They always have been behind the times though I think.

Wake up Bairdlander!!

Keep your eyes and ears open in the very near future. I'm thinking you may not be sleeping all that much pretty soon.

I have been programming for about 25 years at this point, and I have comp sci degree. I use C/C++, java, and C# regularly. No one cares about assembler these days. All those fine skills rusting away. Believe or not, I am actually certified .NET 4.0 programmer, but I would not put it on a resume. The company paid for training that basically taught you everything you needed to know on how to pass the certification test.

Where I fall short is directx programming. I haven't looked at directx since about dx6 back in the 90s. I do know COM fairly well though. Before that I was heavy into programming VGA adapters, like flipping vga registers to toggle which memory to load, then writing directly to it. 16 color screens were a pain because you had to write memory based on the bit position, but I digress at this point.

Would you be willing to look at the program code for PCO?

I can look at it, but I really do not know what needs to be done, since the thread is a bit light on the details about what you are looking for.

It's forum is buried in the dustbin of all the games here and there's no activity by any of the publishers or devs.

Didn't you say there would be a Panzer Command: West Front game? I'm anxious to see a better game of it than CMx2 (Combat Mission 2). I've always appreciated the ai in Panzer Command over the Combat Mission one. Erik? Iain? Anyone?

You might want to revisit the 'dustbin' forum for Panzer Command Ostfront.

Thanks!
Rick

Hi Eric,

I did some work modifying the old Jane's F/A-18 flight simulator (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane%27s_F/A-18) to try and convert it from DirectX 7 to modern DirectX versions. The project turned out to be a monumental task, given the state of the original source, which was written in the old Visual C++ 6 IDE, even getting it compile was a nightmare. The project was never finished, although I do still work on it from time to time. The source code was written in C++.

I've also written a few mods for games in C#, the unit editor for the Panzer Corps (tm.asp?m=2879489), which is written in C#, as well as a unit editor for some of the HPS Napoleonic games that currently don't have an editor. I also wrote a map editor for the old Dominion 2 game.

Most of my time these days is spent writing forensic computer tools, mostly in Delphi, but I do write some tools in C#. Like one previous poster though, my DirectX experience is next to none, but I'd be happy to help if I can.

I have previously put out a request for the source code for the Napoleon in Italy game (in that forum), as that game has terrible trouble running under new OS's, but I never received a response to that one. I was going to see if I could get it to run more favorable in anything other than Windows XP.

Cheers

Nice sketch - I wish I had the talent for doing a 'quick sketch' that would turn out even close to that.
