If the dutch got through it wouldn't have been a proxy match for all 4 sides, as the fiercest rivals (fan-base wise) of the Germans are the Dutch. Lots of fights between their hooligans in the 80s and 90s. I'm guessing the Dutch will now be rooting for Argentina.

That was a long time ago. I think the majority enjoys the football Germany plays at the moment...

This is one of the most popular TV shows of Argentina, making fun or better to say insulting Brazil for its defeat

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7pqG_RmptM

There is not a lot of love between the 2 countries. at least in terms of soccer

This is really a disaster for Brazil; its 2 main rivals "defiling" their holy temple of Maracana. they won't remember this world cup fondly

Watched the video. That's brutal. [:D]

Brasil are still hurt by the 1982 3-2 defeat against Italy, they call it the Sarrià Tragedy. It had and it has profound effect in Brazil football.

So what are they going to call this latest mess?

Some options?

The Brazilian blitzkrieg bomb?

Bundeswehr Brazilian beatdown?

As of today the Brazilian government estimates that 100K Argentinians are in Rio for the final. Of course only a fraction of them have tickets. The government of Rio opened the Samabadrome, where the Carnival parade is held, and the Argentinians are camping there. They are living in tents, their cars, whatever and it's a sea of blue and white.

Van Gaal has gone on record that it's stupid to play a game for 3rd and 4th places as it doesn't matter. He's also upset that Brazil has an additional day to rest before the game. The Dutch must be gassed as they played 2 consecutive matches to PKs in a 4 day span and then get 2 days rest and tomorrow must play again.

Sports are played by children for fun and this is a big business driven by huge amounts of money. FIFA is a "nonprofit" organization with over 1.4 billion Euros in their reserve.

Hey Cribtop, despite being a Gooner, you seem to know a bit about football [;)]

If you fancy taking part in the Fantasy Football competition next season, please let me know. Here is the link to the thread from last season in the General Discussion forum.

Would be good to see you there [:)]

The Argentine invasion continues as they swamp immigration at the border. No hope of getting tickets, they just want to be in Rio when Germany wins the Cup. [;)]

I was a fast, ambidextrous footed left winger for 7 years and still love the game. I will totally get in on this asap!

PS - You aren't so bad for a smelly Spud fan. [:)]

Oh, jeez, I'm so glad they are swamping your borders so they won't think of our's. Woof !! Argentina may be toast as a country, but the love of my late life is a Portena from San Carlos de Bariloche. I want a South American team to win a South American World Cup in South America. It couldn't be Chile, but one must put los pene en los bolsillo, and creo que en una escala mayor.

I know you guys hate them for your reasons. So do we, for our reasons. But they are the best we got in the Ranch at the moment, and I'm inclined to give them all the support I possibly can.

[edit] I know it's only for 3rd, but I hope you guys are so totally pissed that you crush the Netherlands, just to make a point.

Ciao. JWE

Brasil needs to win today, if for no other reason than to regain some dignity.

Argentina winning on Brazilian soil? UNTHINKABLE! Let the Germans lift the Cup for Europe in South America as the alternative is distasteful and over 100K rowdy celebrators from Argentina will only wreck the place.

I guess this is how Brazil has been through the tournament: 11 highly talented players, but incoherent and disorganized, not a functioning team. Theres only one way to go: up.
