Unable to form an Escort TF

Post by Chris21wen »

Amphib TF464 has two damaged ships (they ran into each other) but I cannot separate them into an escort TF. I can if I form another amphib TF.

I can't open your attachment, but you can only create another amphib TF and when doing so give it a few escorts if you have them available. Escort TFs are only created for specific types of ships.

I'm pretty sure it's because they carry troops.

True Gaspote, once you load them on in Amphibious mode, you can't change the designation of the TF. Same is true once you load troops on in Transport mode. They would have to be off loaded first.

Strange you can't open it, it's just a Windows 7 compressed zip file with no password.

Since when? Manual says that you can put any ship in an escort TF. I Quote from page 79 'However, all surface ships except those taken offline can be added to an escort Task Force'. It also says

'Escort. These are general purpose “ship movement” TFs. They are used to
evacuate damaged ships from the battle area, and to move ships between
bases. They cannot load or unload, or perform any other function, and will
flee all enemy forces. They may include any type of surface ship, including
those too badly damaged to fight. Maximum TF size is 100 ships.'

Now as Gaspote said it might be because it has troops but that contradicts the manual (surprise, surprise). After all the time playing this I can't believe this is the first time I had need of forming an escort TF with ships loaded with troops. So when did it change or have I been lucky.

You've been lucky. Taskforces carrying troops can't be changed designation or disbanded.

I unzipped the file that's easy Chris, opening what is left was not easy. But beside that, "since when" is when I started playing this game. Once a TF is designated an amphibious TF or transport, AND it has troops in it, you can't change any of the troop carrying ships into any other TF type. Thus they can't be transferred to a "escort" or any other type of TF other than the type they are presently in. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear before.

Might be because it was an RA scenario using an extended map, never though of that.

For the rest I answered above, seems I've been lucky in that I've never needed to do this before.
