I will deal with Leningrad once the river freezes. For now I am pushing west trying to cut off some of his troops in the Baltic.

The main thrust is in the south. 40+ CV stacks with artillery support are practically unstoppable.

Upgrade Behavior

The upgrade behavior in this game is puzzling. I have had an incredible number of air regiments downgraded to Yak-1, LaGG-3 etc. in this game. This is even more annoying because I have a fighter shortage.

The AI logic for swapping air frames is and always has been bad. The only reason to tolerate it at all is AP constraints. Which in your case do not really apply. I would minimize the automation.

APs ought to be removed altogether from this. Why is this even a cost? But I am becoming a bore on this subject of APs.

It would be much better to just get rid of automatic upgrades and make manual upgrades free.

It looks as though you set your IL-2Ms to fighter missions instead of bombing. If that is true, I can't imagine why you would deliberately do that.

I did not. They were all on bomber mission. That's what makes the upgrade behavior so obnoxious.

ok, then I suspect this part of your game file may be corrupt, even if the rest of the game appears normal and playable. I always set upgrades to manual and in this case you may want to do the same.

I think other people probably have the same problem.

This is the ultimate solution but it will cost a lot of APs and it adds more micro-management. I think morvael mentioned that he made fixes to the upgrade behavior in the next patch.

T78 - Overview

An overview of the front. There are basically three main thrusts at Leningrad, Orel and Dnepropetrovsk. In addition there are a couple of skirmishes at Smolensk, Sumy and Poltava just to occupy as many Axis troops as possible.

The hex north of the Neva has been cleared with the help of 9 artillery divisions. I will wait till next turn to advance my troops over the Neva. The goal is to encircle Leningrad and to capture Vyborg as quickly as possible.

After crossing the Neva I am able to attack Pavlovo with massive artillery support. The Axis troops are retreating west. It looks like they are making a stand at the Narva and at Pskov. Vyborg has suddenly become less interesting to me.
