Weekly Spotlight: Riesental

Sovereignty: Crown of Kings is a turn-based fantasy strategy game for the PC. It offers a intuitive yet deep province system, allowing you to raise armies, conduct diplomacy, scout enemy battle lines, rally heroes to your banner, send them on quests, cast spells and go to war. In Sovereignty, the player chooses one of 35 Realms in a bid for dominance of the map. Play is conducted in a series of turns as a single player game. Each Realm has a unique culture and history, which translates directly into different play-styles. Each realm has its own mix of unit types and spell trees. Their diplomatic relations, economies and histories vary. A player may choose a new realm and experience the game in a very different way. Fantasy heroes, troops, races and spells complement the rise to power.

Weekly Spotlight: Riesental

Post by Breca »

This week's spotlight: the mighty logging operations at Riesental...

The great forests of Riesental were originally home to the Wood Elves of Aevinwode. But in the glory days of the Boruvian Empire, the Elves retreated, and the humans laid claim to these verdant expanses. For centuries, the Empire did little to develop this region, content to maintain light ranger patrols along its eastern flank, while pushing westward. The rangers lived off the land and came to protect it as the elves once had. But as the weakening Empire became embroiled in religious schism, opportunity arose, and Riesental made its bid for independence. Today, Riesental continues as a sparsely-populated human woodland realm of small, quaint towns tucked in forests. The rangers remain, but new settlers have arrived, and the realm is ruled by a merchant prince who has ramped up the local logging industry. As a result, Riesental has emerged as a major lumber exporter, and its economy has grown. And this has created an odd mix here of forest rangers and loggers, a tension between those who would preserve the land, and those who would exploit it.

Riesental's Spell Tree focuses on exploration and trade. There is a tension here in Riesental between those who would profit from the woodlands, and those who would preserve it.

Level 1
Trapper's Trick: Standard infantry unit gains Shackles.
Explorer's Ambition: Avarice is its own reward. A Mercenary in your realm gains Scout permanently but receives +35 Upkeep.
Wood Lore: The woodlands provide. Any Light Forest you own gains +1 Economy.

Level 2
Provincial Coffers: Distant provinces generate gold at full value.
Herbalism: You impart the secrets of herbal remedies. Cast on any unit with Forester or Darkdweller. That unit gains +1 Heal permanently.

Level 3
Disrupt Magic: Cancel all positive spells active in a province.
Golden Route: Cast on a Capitol with which you share a trade route. Both connected realms benefit and gain an additional 200 Gold per turn.
Double Deal: Through artful deception, your bad behavior goes unnoticed in diplomatic circles.

Level 4
Sealed Borders: No unit may move into or out of this province.

Level 5
Spoilage: Target an enemy or neutral capitol. Any Trade Route to and from that Capitol is spoiled and instead costs the receiving realms 25 Gold per turn. Bad shipments also damage diplomatic relations between the realms.

Unit spotlight is on Skirmishers, versatile for softening the enemy before engaging in hand-to-hand.

When Skirmishers receive their first combat Medal, they may gain one additional ability of your choice:

Evasion: This Unit may not be captured in the field. If a capture is called, this Unit instead retreats from the field.
Mobility: Ignores Zone of Control for purposes of movement.

When Skirmishers receive their second combat Medal, they may gain a final ability of your choice:

Scout: On the campaign map, you may view all Units in an adjacent foreign province, except those with Stealth.
Move +1

Noticed the realm divided by a river. Seems a little hard to believe that there is no bridge to connect the separated lands of the realm.
