if nothing else Oshawatt is providing empirical evidence for the debate that sometimes occurs around the effectiveness of artillery. I'd guess with 11,000 guns, your units must be largely disrupted even before the actual close attack phase?

If this is a record I will be able to beat it.

But these combat reports also show that 13:1 men and 27:1 artillery are still leading to very tight combats. Just look at the odds of 2.3:1. Fortifications were reduced one level and there was no reserve activation. It just shows how effective fortifications are.

One reason might be that those rocket launcher divisions are all high morale but low experience <30.

Wait till your guards rifle corps will have 21 CV... For now I see they are 8-11 which is low (in my game worst non-guards rifle corps that I formed had 7 CV on the first turn of existence).

Most of those rifle corps haven't even flipped over to the 42c TOE yet probably.

It's the rocket artillery divisions that are creating those huge numbers for you, most people underbuild them. (I admit to this myself.) Yet if they actually fill out they have something like 2x the launchers that arty divisions have tubes. Maybe more than that.

Just as a matter of curiosity, asking in ignorance, how does this 11K figure compare to historical Soviet practice? Were they ever able to get that much artillery focused on one battle?

Yes, but not this early. They were packing in something like 300 guns per kilometer or more later on. Add to that the lavish mortar support and you get there.

About 1000 per rocket launcher division in 42/43. They also provide a nice increase in CV. At this stage up to 15 per division with most of those being around 30 experience.

You sound a little dejected Stef.[:(] I don't blame you, this is a thankless task. This is where you wish you were playing the sudden death version although I think the checks should be made six monthly rather than yearly.

Do not make a mistake, I have an excellent morale! It is just a way of changing the comment [;)]

The end of the game is now known, the only question is: when is it going to finish? If I had to take a bet, I shall say in the end of the summer, 1944.

In the final this game will have for merit to illustrate the extreme importance of the first turns for the German player.

+/-100k of losses for the Russian at the end of the turn 17 may correspond to 2/3 month at the end of the game.

Of course it's not a pure y = ax + b... it would be boring

Summer 1944 is a pretty good bet. If you can make it to 45 I'd call that a moral victory.

Over 444.000 men in battle and only some 1.600 losses? That's the WITE engine at its best. Not even 0.4% losses. Ridiculous.

The bigger the force, the smaller the percentage of losses.
