Baltimore on the Prowl, 1952

Post by Mgellis »

Here is the beta of my newest scenario. It is 1952 and an American cruiser and an American destroyer are tasked with stopping a merchant carrying weapons to Palestinian terrorists. Two warships against one merchant? It should be easy, right?

As always, please let me know what you think. Suggestions, comments, etc. are all welcome. Thanks.

Small thematic issue-this is still the pre-Soviet period in the Middle East, so I'd recommend using British boats (the CWDB has Fairmiles that could do the trick), rather than Soviet ones.

A reasonable suggestion...I'll make the change and upload the new version.

Headed both ships south to Tyre. Launched sea planes. ID'd freighter and intercepted with the destroyer. Escort ships remained to the north and were never engaged. Triumph.

Any more thoughts, suggestions, etc. on this one? Or is it ready for the Community Scenario Pack? Thanks.

I don't know how you do it: only 36 AUs and a pile of fun!

I scored 75; I lost a Kingfisher who was dropping warning bombs from 1kft on the merchant. [:D]

I think large and small scenarios offer different kinds of enjoyment...a large scenario offers the pleasure of a "puzzle"--how do I fit all these parts together to make the mission work? In addition, because the opposing forces have a lot of units, there is often sustained tension when one is beating off one attack after another. A small scenario can run the risk of having long periods of waiting, watching, searching, etc., without much happening, but I think maybe there is a different kind of emotional investment when you're in charge of just a couple of ships, etc. I think maybe when it is a smaller command that way, it is more focused and more personal.
