Those colored bars on the counters

I am having trouble grokking those colored lines that appear on various counters at various times. They must have something to do with unit status, but just what I'm not entirely sure. Obviously this affects what I can and cannot attempt with these units.

Do you mean the colored bars that sometimes cover the strength numbers? That means the unit is re-organizing, or routed, or not available for orders for various reasons such as being in garrison mode per the scenario settings.
