PBEM - Units freezing up

Post by WayneBGood »

I've been playing a couple of PBEM scenarios and what's most aggravating is when units usually armor stop moving. There readiness levels are good, morale is good, and HQ's are in range.
No matter what I try to do hasty deliberate move etc. they usually end up sighted then, turned to junk by constant salvoes of artillery. This has happened with pact and NATO units. Most time
have good terrain and cover. patched up to 2.0.4 and same problem is occurring. any advice is welcomed.

Badcat, I am going to move this to the Tech support forum and we will work it there. Do you have any screen shots or save games to help us pin down the problem?

Here in my screen shot look for the HQ unit for c/tf1. next to it you will see M48s, 3/c/tf1. that unit has been "frozen" for about an hour. there were it's comrades 1,2,4 TF1 which were eliminated due to the stack being frozen. I'm not able to get a save file since it's a PBEM. I do have another file saved showing the losses for that hex.

Here is a screenshot showing where 3/C/TF1 froze and losses attributed to that freeze.

Hi there Badcat, what were the ready rates and morale for the tank unit and its immediate HQ?

Badcat, I would like to see a screenshot with that armored unit highlighted and the UPD panel showing its stats. Is the unit actually stuck or is it the movement delay penalty that is keeping it from moving? In the game, movement delays are built in to simulate the time it takes to transmit order and for the unit to actually execute those orders. Many things on the battlefield can affect the length of delay. If the unit does not get the orders timely, it can affect the time it takes for it to move. Now, if the moral or readiness is bad, the unit's self-preservation will kick in and it may move itself to safety. But if it's moral and readiness is good, it may stand and fight in the face of the enemy. We have all lost units that we wanted to move to a more secure place, but were unable to get their out of harms way quickly enough. It is a very close balancing act in the program between a unit standing and following orders in the face of the enemy or deciding to bail to save itself.

In campaign mode I get regular freezes which I 'solve' by regular saves so I can continue the game.

C/3/TF 1-12 is toast. Its readiness is 19% and its morale is 6%. It is not wanting to go anywhere very fast. I doubt that it is "frozen", I think it is done as a fighting unit. When you see readiness and morale as low as that unit, usually the best strategy is not to give it orders and hope that the unit will retreat away on its on. When you gave it a movement order, than all the movement delay penalties will kick into effect and it will be heavy because the unit itself is so shot up. However, units like this one normally will get overrun. More than likely cohesion and command and control has broken down in this unit. In real life, a unit this bad might even surrender when approached by the enemy. Unfortunately, we don't do surrender yet in the game.

Use the post reply button. That will give you options to attach certain files types.

I read your reply but before he units were shot up they just froze there. Readiness and morale were high. I was unable to get them to move and THEN, they got shot up to pieces.
Like I said earlier in a post once spotted and after some suppression fire they just remained in place and what you see is the last survivor.

Badcat, we will look into this problem in tonight's Dev call. What we really need is a save that replicates the problem so we can find the error. That gets tough with PBEM plays. There is a file that is on your system when you play the scenario. I will look this evening and get you some details on how to get it.

hoe ist?, I ran your saved file, however, I could not see what the problem was. Is there a specific unit at a specific place and time that I need to look for. All the units with movement orders moved and moved timely. Thanks

hoe ist, are you talking units stop moving or the game freezes up on you? Two different issues and I want to be sure. As Charles said, if you have units with issues let us know which ones. If it is units, how many scenarios in a row did you play before the freezes started?

Thanks for helping us out with your reports.
