Black scenario selection screen

I'm trying to run the game in Win8. When I select New Game, I get to the scenario selection screen, but all I can see is a black window. I can see the scenario names, but I cannot see the buttons. Any suggestion? I've already tried running the game in all the compatibility modes available.

I'm not sure if this is the same problem you have, but it might be related?
