RE: 1944 March 13
Let us know how it goes with the bombers! In the end I had to resort to using Escorts as I never got the results as I wanted with Sweep/bombers.

RE: 1944 March 13
I do use plenty of squadrons on Escort, but I rarely LRCAP the hex unless I am trying to more seriously oppose enemy bombing than is getting done with CAP flying over.
I think the technique that I outlined will work out well enough as I've used it before when I really needed to. Most of the time the problem is that the sweepers go in last or nearly last, but still in the morning. With Naval Attack + Ground Attack, the bombers have their morning reserved for Naval Attack AFAIK, so they should always go in during the afternoon.
We'll see!

I've used this extensively. It can work well, but sometimes just fizzles as they either don't fly or because they do attack something in the water (more rare, as usually I'd only restrict to the range needed, but if it's a port hex even a few PT/PBs can attract the lot of the bombers with not such great results).

RE: 1944 March 13
I set the range equal to the range from base to the ground target hex. I know that you can set the range to 0 and still target the assigned hex, but I just figured this was is more sporting. Maybe it's not really, because it does make sense to be able to give orders to a group such as "Any ships show up within 40 miles of this base, attack them. Otherwise, go after the enemy troops assigned to support the assault."

There were Allied amphibious operations at:

Allied bombardments in the Pacific.
Our attack at Ambon began reducing the defenders, but our troops will rest for one or two days. Meanwhile, a para landing at Kolaka to cut off the ex-defenders of Kendari achieved its objective.
During combat, major IJN surface fleet elements were located by our submarines south of Honshu-Shikoku-Kyushu. The trouble is that we could not tell if they were heading west toward the Philippines or DEI, or east to cover the Bonins. As we are in fact beginning to gather the troops and ships for the Iwo Jima invasion, it would be nice to know!
Here is a look at the USA '44 Infantry Squad pool. As you can see from the number of squads currently needed to replace combat losses versus the number in the pool, the pool will be empty in a few days!

And after four units comprising 272 (of those 1,334) AV arrived today after the combat! I'm surprised by the disruption(-) on the attackers. Looking ahead, there are no big boosts to AV via arrivals in store for the heroic defenders of Chungking. Let's hope that the paperwork reduction which accompanies their much reduced over stacking allows for more efficient use of daily supply to repair disabled squads. There appears to be movement out of Chungking by some IJ units simultaneous with movement into Chungking by others. Rest will be minimal for our stalwart defenders.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The IJ troops ashore at Moulmein and Rangoon will get tonight off from bombardments as there is no TF in place to make a run. Meanwhile Kenya did its bit.
There are some differences in IJ troop strength seen via recon along the front lines, but I am unsure if they are just variations in recon or real. The battle hex SW of Toungoo had been stacked with ~89,000 Imperials but now shows ~55,000. Just to the east, the road hex had at least two units but now shows one, while the non-road hex just to that SW now shows three units where it had one or two before. I wonder if DAW HQ is getting ready for whatever the next phase of their defensive plan is?Allied Ships Bombarding Moulmein

Marshalling enough assault shipping to land all six divisions on Iwo Jima at the same time will be a challenge, but we might be able to swing it by using substantial numbers of LST and AKA to carry troops (not just equipment). The greater question is should we land all six at one time, given that the stacking limit is 25,000? Landing six divisions (plus other units) with a stacking limit of 35,000 worked out well enough, but even with massive amounts of supply the increase in disruption was felt, partly in combat effectiveness and partly in greater time to recover disruption. 25,000 is only 71% of 35,000. Should I land only four divisions in the initial assault, with merchant shipping standing by to pull of two beat up divisions while the assault shipping goes back to the Marianas to get two fresh assault divisions? That would also ensure enough shipping in the initial wave to land copious amounts of supply, which has proved to be a critical factor, and allow lighter loading of assault forces to allow faster unloading for the mandatory shock attack. I'm leaning that way.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is it possible to fly a B-29 Sqn. from Aden or Abadan to an on-map base?
I don't know if lesser birds can't do it because of their lack of range or if the game engine won't allow it.

OK, just popped into the save and checked on it. Only off-map bases are available, and (of course) only via strategic transfer. So, it seems that the game engine forbids it.

I recommend 4 div up front w/ 2 reserve. Easy to pull off after they get disrupted. I used this strategy at Truk against FatR.
